The manual trans, if one is a manual enthusiast, is by far the single most important option.

In the future you might consider using it to get on a list for a 992 and offer it as a trade in to move waaaaaay up. the list.

Last night I was showing my wife a Boxster GTS a friend of mine is looking at and she said, "I like it a lot". Then immediately followed that up with "It reminds me of your silver Porsche Convertible which I liked a lot better than the one you have now."

Huh? A 991.1 vs a 992?

"How is that? The one in the garage is so much better than the 2014, what did you like about that one that makes it better?"

"The Door Handles. I hate the door handles on the black car." she said

"I don't even remember what door handles the older car had!"

'Regular ones, not those disappearing electric ones. I would never buy that care you now have because of those door handles".

And there you have it.

The right answer with 911s is always both (or more).

I feel your pain. My wife would NEVER buy any car that did not have lighted make up mirrors built into the Sun visors. So there you have it.

This^

If I went backward, I wouldn't stop until at least a 993.

This. 100%. Tell me all you want about how PDK is the best and I'll keep telling you it makes the car become a car video game. Especially as these cars have gotten bigger and more accomplished, the manual transmission alone will let you forget all these "I miss the hydraulic steering, I miss no ABS, I miss torsion bar, I miss air-cooled" nonsense.

Lol. I appreciate the sentiment. It wouldn’t be practical to keep it. I’m the only one on the family that dives a stick, so it wouldn’t see enough use, which would be a disservice to the car. It still drives like new, but that’s because I drive it regularly. However, my new car arrives next month, so there may be a window where I can enjoy both for a while. :-)

I agree with your wife - these door handles are just plain stupid.

I think the OP has to ask his friend what he appreciates most about the 992 being his Daily?
As much as he seemingly misses the "engagement" of the 997, after 2 years of daily driving a rougher, manual, slower, smaller car with less tech, will he then miss that of the 992?
I think the post advising owning both is the correct answer..

OP should ask the same question in the 991 forum.

I went from a 992 to a 991.1 Turbo, missed the comfort tech, never grew on me back in a 992

Tech is overrated. Who cares. It's a sports car.

I’m not sure if you all are aware, but Porsche offers official upgraded PCM systems for older models. These systems update the infotainment to modern standards. (For example, Apple Car Play is a feature). These aren’t to expensive, either.

(I seriously considered going this route but eventually decided to order the 992).

True but as a daily it's nice to have it, though not required.
