I specifically did not spec the Matrix Headlights in my upcoming build because I had learned (from this forum) that the capability is disabled for the US.

The functionality looks amazing, and I would love to have (need) this when driving in the dark, but the US limitation actually saved me a few bucks! :-P

If you want it programmed remotely reach out to @rnlst_log He can even help you source a PIWIS and will teach you how to do it yourself.

I haven't decided which I will do, but he will help with both.

There's also a thread where someone thinks even after the unlocking, full functionality is not enabled. 🤷‍♂️

Is the only difference between the matrix headlights and the PDLS+ lights the disabled Matrix functionality? Or are their other differences like the look, brightness at night, etc.

latest article from CNN on this subject ...

https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/15/cars/...ars/index.html

seems like NHTSA wants a completely new design of ADB headlights from car manufacturers so to meet their requirements .... so, many more years of wait for US drivers.

... because the photons work differently in the US? This clearly seems to be a case of the 'great' getting in the way of the 'good'. Rather than allow something that works (apparently) fine in the rest of the world, we're stuck with ancient regulations and never-ending studies.

I got sick of waiting and DIY enabled active matrix on my 992 with a PIWIS setup and guidance from @rnlst_log , couldn't be happier.

just my 2 cents - every serious owner who does even the simplest mods should have a PIWIS setup - at a minimum, it allows you to clear faults easily without a dealer trip, and change maintenance flags. . . essential tool. @rnlst_log is the go-to on this as many other can attest . . . super knowledgable guy and amazing service.

@rnlst_log posted the DIY activation sequence in the thread referenced above, but I'm not brave enough to try that myself - well worth it to let him do it remotely. I had him activate both my TTS and GT3 - awesome feature and if you have a car with Matrix lighs, you should 100% activate them.

Which is essentially what one of the editors of Driving Vision News has been telling me via emails since Fall, 2022. Here's a link to the DVN website: https://www.drivingvisionnews.com/

I've never been comfortable in providing his name (he's shown on the DVN staff page) since some of documentation he provided to me was not for publication and I've been concerned that I might misrepresent the data he provided.

My conclusion from these email exchanges is that it is unlikely that the U.S. will ever get anything close to the adaptive headlights that are available in the rest of the world.

So ... you might as well get your LED-matrix headlights fully activated using your choice of methods: Have Anthony of 9XX or someone else do it using a legal licensed PIWIS or go the illegal pirated PIWIS route and do it yourself.
