My local dealership has a Targa 4 GTS arriving later this month. Apparently was an extra allocation they received. Chalk over black. I have a 2021 Spyder that I love, but I’ve always wanted a Targa. They are asking an ADM of 30k for Targa, which seems high but with them generally being unobtainable, not sure it’s so bad. Anyway, throwing it out to the group. Have only had the Spyder for less than a year and love it.

30k ADM is a little silly right now. You have a Unicorn in the Spyder. If it were me I would keep it unless they knock you socks off with the trade in.
oooooooh... I deeply understand this debate. I just took delivery of my new Targa (4S with manual) and the only other car that almost ended up in my garage was the spyder.
I'm absolutely loving the Targa and convinced it was the right decision for me. A few things I cared about that may or may not matter to you:
1- I knew I'd drive it more if I could throw kids in the back for school drop off because sometimes my day goes from there. True. Kids hop in, drop at school, off to the gym/golf/office/etc.. end up in the targa all day probably 2-3 days/week that I otherwise would not.
2- Top up/down. Sometimes I leave the house and its too cold or too hot for top down but within an hour i'm switching. I know its not that hard on the spyder but I also don't like leaving the car parked with the top off so my top goes up and down a lot. In a spyder i'd find myself, especially on short drives (which most of my drives are) dealing with the status quo instead of maximizing fun
3- slightly more refined/comfortable for an almost daily driver and it doesn't apply to the GTS but I really fell in love with the heritage interior.
ALL THAT SAID: spyders snap my neck when I see them on the road. I have zero doubt that I would have loved owning one. Just awesome cars.
If you want the Targa, the 30k ADM isn't outrageous, especially considering how well Targas generally hold their value.
As just one example, this used Targa 4 GTS 7MT (with 1700 ODO) went for ~20k over MSRP.
So for a brand new Targa, a 30k ADM is, well, within market
Agreed. Porsche Tampa wanted 40k over for a new Targa 4 GTS. I bought a 1 year old with 2k miles for 17k over and felt it was a very fair deal after 6 months of searching. I can’t compare to the spider as I have no wheel time in one but I love the Targa. I’ve owned quite a few exotics and this semi exotic is hands down the best all around car I’ve had. Plus my kids fit in the back no problem.
Slc4s, if it was manual with Heritage interior, I wouldn’t have ever started this thread. Your car is stunning. The Targas definitely hold their value (for now), but who knows what the future will hold. This isn’t my ideal build, but it’s so hard to get a Targa right now it has me thinking. Appreciate everyone’s comments. I’ll update with the decision.
If you really want the car and you are okay burning the ADM amount then go for it. I wouldn't buy the car and pay the ADM expecting that the resale market continues to support 2-3 year old used Targas selling at over MSRP.
I’ve been watching GTS values, and to be honest, they’re kind of weak considering most people spec in the $170k-$180k range on a coupe. Any adm on top is literally dead money. To be honest, I think you’ll feel kind of silly two weeks later if you went through with the deal when you already have a cab. There’s no secret wave or acknowledgment for owning a Targa GTS that I’m aware of.

You don't know about it because it is a secret wave and you don't own a Targa GTS. We could tell you but then we would need to kill you.
I love the Targa but I am biased since I own a 991.1 Targa GTS.
Never driven a Spyder but I assume it is a better car to drive and N/A engine sound is fantastic.
The Targa is more versatile and probably more convenient on a daily basis. Went for a drive with mine yesterday evening on back roads, very happy with the handling so it can only be better on a 992 (also drove one but a C2S coupé).
Depends on what you are looking for in a car, both solid choices for open top driving experience and both stunning looking cars.
