Default PSE EXHAUST HELP

my 992 4s doesnt have pse or the button for the valves, my porsche dealer is saying i would need to get the porsche sport exhaust install to have the valve button. They are asking 8k for it with install and everything. A soul exhaust with downpipes would run me about the same. Not sure which route to go with, i know even with soul exhaust i still wouldnt be able to open the valves.

Ship the valves is my suggestion, they are just low rpm baffles. I would not bother retrofitting them to the car, I don't think there is much value in them myself. I certainly would not spend $ 8K for a Porsche Sport Exhaust, you can buy a Akro or Tubi (or Soul) for that and have a pipe with far better tone.

+1 don’t get PSE.

1) Get a non-valved exhaust and call it a day
2) Get a valved exhaust with a cargraphics valve controller to open the valves via remote (or get a tune)

The dealer can make an adjustment inside the computer to open about 70% of the operation of PSE. I had it done to my 22 S. I do not have a switch for on off of the valves, but when I put the car into sport, it opens the valves

As Richard said, the pdf instructions for installing and activating PSE can be found on this forum. The only hardware differences between PSE and non-PSE cars are the muffler and pipes. Non-PSE cars have the same exhaust valves, so you can activate PSE via PIWIS without installing the hardware and get the same functionality but with a different sound.

Was the dealer not able to assign one of your diamond buttons to the PSE function? Or did you not have a free diamond button?

I’ve read the pdf but from my understanding the dealer has to be the one doing that which they are refusing unless I get the sport exhaust from them

Ah, that's a different problem. Talk to a different service advisor or different dealer.. This is on my to do list for later this year.

Just get the aftermarket exhaust as many have said. If you want it to be really loud get the Akra. Moderately loud, get the Soul. It cost around $600 to have an indy shop install it. You can find a used one on here and on eBay for much less. Add the tune or valve controller and forget about paying the dealer $8K.

My car did not have PSE in the original build as I didn’t want to oval exhaust. I purchased a new set of buttons (assembly) for $300 off the internet along with a PSE exhaust that looked new. VERIFY P/Ns! Total mod was $1100 and installation was easy (refer to Porsche mod instructions). I have a PIWIS so was able to code. System works as advertised and while not too loud, it is noticeable. Just right for me.

Skip the valves, get a Soul exhaust. We'll get you taken care of so you don't look back...

Wait, is there something special about the PSE button or did you just want to have the proper icon?

Same wrt to the PSE vs quad tips for me. It would have been easier to change the valence and tips in hindsight.

Question on PSE. I’m coming from a 718 BGTS 4.0 and can hear the exhaust open when rpms exceed ~3.8K in first, second and third, and slightly lower rpm if fourth or higher.

On the 992 with PSE (mine will be a GTS), anyone know what approx rpm they open with PDK? I’ll be adding the car graphic controller, but just curious.

I have a valved JCR and valve controller set on open most of the time on my GTS. I hear it immediately. You'll be grinning.

IMHO, PSE is overrated. I have it on my GTS. Yes, its a bit louder, but not much. Turbo Porsches are not exhaust note champs. If you prefer the twin oval pipes versus the quads, that's fine. But $8K is spendy for a modest improvement. Go aftermarket for less if you want more sound. If you really want sound, I suggest a aspro V12 that revs to around 9000 RPM.
