Default locked fob in car!`

While getting ready to head out I had my Targa roof down (car was off an unlocked) and I put my key fob in the passenger seat, shut the door and gathered the rest of my belongings.
Then a few minutes later the car locked itself with the fob in it! Thankfully I was home so I just got the spare; I was under the impression no modern car will lock when it detects the appropriate key fob in it. Has this happened to anyone else? My SA said it is normal operating procedure. A good lesson for sure.

That's odd. You also can unlock on your phone app.

The car will lock itself with your key inside. This happened to my wife once while refueling. She may have touched the handle in such a way that the car thought she wanted to lock it. But 5min after filling the tank she discovered she was locked out. And phone inside the car!

If you get a moment, go to YouTube and type in “Blondestar”. One of the funnier commercial spoofs about locking your keys in your car.

This is happening to me as well, been trying to figure out if there is a setting to change but can’t find anything. Anyone know if there is a way to avoid this??

My car has locked itself while I am getting gas all by itself... Always worried now that my keys and phone could be inside when it does that. I DO NOT like this feature

Roll a window down, leave the door ajar, keep the fob in your pocket, never leave the fob in the car are all ways to prevent the car from locking itself.

I agree. It's a "feature" that's just asking for ticked off owners.

I may be experiencing something similar: the car appears to lock itself but it is not actually locked, it’s just that the door handles have recessed. If you pull out the door handles from the flush position they will come out and open the door.

this is normal and might be what everyone is experiencing. Not actually locked but just the handles recess. I often leave my fob in the car overnight and in the morning just pull the handle out.

This is exactly correct. I just went out to the garage and tested it. The car is not locked (you can even see the status in the Porsche app). The door handles are retracted, however if you pull the handle out the door opens like normal.

Problem solved. Or maybe the right way to say it is, better educated… There never was a problem, other than in my mind I associated the door handles being retracted as meaning they were locked.

Now, if you somehow accidentally lock your door when the fob is in the car, then you do have a problem. As long as you have your phone you should be able to unlock the car with the app, or hopefully your second fob is close by.
