I looked at tons of threads on this subject before my 992 arrived in March. What I decided to do was use the existing USB-C adapter in the seat and use a
for my iPhone. I decided that the inconvenience of having it out of site would help me keep my eyes on the road instead of my phone while I drive. It's a "safety feature" for me because i know I'm on my phone far too much during the day.
The only downside is that once every couple of weeks, I may walk away from the car and forget that the phone is under the armrest. Otherwise, i can control everything through Car Play and limit the interaction with my cell phone while driving.
Or you lose the ashtray or in my case change holder.
I echo @ron4sc 's sentiments and put my in my armrest if I need to charge or leave it my pocket otherwise. Wireless CarPlay is where it is at. I don't need my iPhone out.
Perhaps I'm missing something, but what's the need for a holder? Isn't that why we have Carplay / Siri voice? And after enabling full-screen Carplay on my PCM5 (thx @innovativesoft ) I never touch my phone. Legitimately curious what use case ppl find requires a dedicated mount?
(and yeah, I'm assuming Carplay is the default). The 'normal' PCM Nav/Music is abysmal - it that's the need then I understand.

I went this route AND I added another USB-C cable for direct connect, because all too often CarPlay just flakes out and won't connect wirelessly.
Why does every one of these threads turn into one where people question the need to have their phones visible? If you don't need it, why not just skip the thread? Why come into a thread to talk about something you don't need?
FWIW, I have my phone visible so i can have Waze on the PCM screen and I can select what music I want to listen to on the iPhone. Or, sometimes, I like to have the street by street directions visible on the iPhone and the map view on the PCM.
Also, CarPlay is not perfect. For example, I use Amazon music. For whatever reason, CarPlay absolutely refuses to display any playlists even though there is a playlist button. When I push it, the only playlist that shows up are liked items. None of the other music playlists show up. This is true for the CarPlay in my 992 as well as in the CarPlay for my Acura MDX. CarPlay recognizes the playlist and will advance and skip back to the correct songs on the playlist, but just refuses to display the playlists by name so I am not able to access a basic playlist using just CarPlay. If it worked as intended, I would leave the phone in my pocket.
So, frankly, it's dangerous to screw around w/ the half nerfed CarPlay functions when the phone functions are much more full featured and easy to navigate and actually usable.
Easy, straightforward install. Looks so clean, it looks OEM. You do lose the cupholder, but I don't miss it at all. It securely holds and charges the phone.

Because internet. As in "why don't people search for threads on common topics before posting?" Or, "why don't the admins shut down repeated threads and point ppl at the original one?" Or even more meta "why do people complain about people complaining about repeated threads on the same topic?"
>> For example, I use Amazon music.
Learned something, noted. My conclusion: switch to Spotify and you won't need a phone holder.

I’m with you about not fighting the facts/question like saying why even need a phone holder rather than responding with useful holders as OP asked. But I like new threads because new products and info has come out since the old thread even if on the same topic and also some threads ask a slightly different question and we have plenty of room for all of them to coexist!
