Possible money shift

You can also check how much the RPM increases from 4 to 3.
Drive in 4th at like 3000 rpm, then shift to 3. Record the delta.
Add the above delta to 5000 rpm and you come up with how high the rpms actually got.

Please, your way over stressing this. We do this four times a weekend on our Road Racing motorcycles and just keep on riding, and I am taking about 14,000 RPM. At Barber Motorsports Park I've watched the Porsche instructors red line/over red line, brand new 911's lap after lap with no ill effect. Honestly, your fine, enjoy your car.

Your car is fine. When you Money Shift a car, like I did with this 1996 C4S at VIR during an Instructor Session in 2001, the car blows up. You hear a "POP" - look in the mirrors and see blue smoke trailing behind you as your whole instrument board lights up while your engine is dead and you coast to a stop. Crankshaft through the engine block stuff. THAT .... is a Money Shift.

>> Indeed. I am planning on doing that tomorrow. Thanks
Quite possible / probable that the overrev report will indicate... overrevs. Just preparing you for that outcome, and reiterating what others have said that if you'd made a money shift you'd already know it. Just relax and enjoy the car.

3rd gear has a 1.58 ratio while 4th gear has a 1.18 ratio on the 7-speed 992. So if you were really at 5,000rpm in 4th, downshifting to 3rd would put you at 6,700rpm, still quite far from redline.

OP, The DME records these values. You’ll want to know these anyway if you ever sell the car, or at least some prospective buyers may want to know. It doesn’t sound like you have much to worry about thanks to your speed at the time and also your quick reactions.
EDIT: I see you did this already. Excellent!
