Default time for an oil change?

Hey, sorry I'm too lazy to RTFM :-)
Will my 992 start barking at me when it's time for an oil change, or do I need to keep track?
Is the interval based strictly on mileage, or will it be more based on some secret usage algorithm like my former X3 ?
Thx!

You'll get a reminder from either time or mileage. Most likely time, unless you drive the car a lot.
I started getting an instant-on message every time I started the car at the one-year anniversary.
I bought an Autel MKZ808 BT to scan codes and reset the maintenance warning.
I ended up getting the first service at 18 months and 5,000 miles.

well, technically you should read the manual so you have a basic understanding of how this platforms works. the 992 is so different from any other platform.

having said that, you will get a smart service reminder if you use the my Porsche app (it will tell you when to change lots of things) but i believe is is based on when the vehicle was made. so in a year from production date your app will tell you to get an oil and filter change.

you can also see your oil level and see oil maintenance intervals via your steering wheel and it will display on your screen. or, you can just do the math.

if you don't drive the car a lot just remember to do it every year regardless of mileage.

with modern cars, Porsche's included everyone you talk to will tell you to do an oil and filter change every 10K miles. when i started driving one of the few things i remember my dad telling me was to change the oil every 3K or earlier no matter what. he had several Porsche g-body's and at the time we lived in Southern California and there were no shortage of great indy's and even amazing Porsche dealers back then. i say all that to say i don't wait 10K miles to change the oil and filter in my cars. i change mine every 5K or sometimes earlier depending on how hard i drive it. i use my 992 as a daily so it sees everything and every weather condition so i change more often. the notion of waiting 10K miles to change the oil and filter is still really hard for me to wrap my head around so i will pay my dealer $300 2x a year keep my oil and ocd in check.

Hey reading the manual for certain things can be tiresome, but you should at least care enough to find out the basics-, ie oil changes.

Never ceases to amaze me some don’t care to learn about their possessions. Asking others is not the solution before trying to learn by simply reading material supplied with the car in this case.

I would do the first oil change at 1000 miles and then listen to the car if you're lazy, else do it every 5k after

Every 6 Months with a new Oil Filter. If I hit 10,000 miles in less than 6 Months, I’d change them both then.
When new, I changed the Oil and Filter far more frequently at 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 miles. The 10,000 mile service was free/included in the purchase price of the car.
I also send off an Oil Sample for analysis at each Oil Change. Impending failures tend to show up in the oil long before the repair that’s needed gets outrageously expensive.

The date/mileage for the next oil change as determined by your car can be found through the car and info display in the right hand side of your instrument cluster.

That's just wasteful. There is no car manufacturer that recommends that anymore.
