Is it the norm nationally to charge 15 grand over MSRP for a base 911? Thx.
Just curious. I got my last Porsche at $11K below MSRP, but that was almost 7 years ago. I understand MSRP now, but no way I'd pay a penny over, especially for a freaking base car. Never imagined a base 911 would have that much demand, but guess I was wrong. Ha ha. Anyway, my local dealer wants 15 grand over MSRP for a $135K+ Carrera I configured. Just curious if it's just where I live (El Paso, TX), and the fact it's the only dealer within hundreds of miles. Or it's a national issue. And I know the GM, since I sold him my ex-house. But it's a Group1 dealer, so I know there's not much he can do. If I could get one built at MSRP not too far away, I might do that. Otherwise, will wait until supply catches up with demand... or the other way around. Thanks gang.

Yes demand is that strong and supply doesn't meet demand, therefore ADMs. However, Not all dealers charge ADMs and some of the ones that charge it are lowering them or removing them as demand softens. Phone around. Does it need to be near you? Any dealer can ship to your home.

Welcome to the present Porsche 992 buying experience. $15k sounds a bit high on a base. Between $5k to $10k sounds a bit more normal. But only if you can get a allocation right away. What I've seen on this forum it's all about the wait time, long wait less ADM, shorter wait time more ADM. I ordered a base in March no ADM no wait, but have a good relationship with dealer which happen to have a T allocation that they traded for a base for for me. So also good timing. I have read that some folks have been on wait list from 6 months to 2 years. So I wouldn't count on supply chain opening up anytime soon. I would definitely try calling around to more in state dealers in your area. Alot of out of state dealers don't like selling out of their state. In general the Penske dealerships have a no adm policy on new cars. However you are going to get in line for an allocation. Also pretty sure that line gets ditched all the time. People who buy more cars, longer relationship, etc will jump ahead.

I also was adamant that I was not going to pay over MSRP. I was on the MSRP waitlist at two dealers for well over a year. Then Porsche announced the huge increase for 2024 model year. I thought maybe that would soften ADMs. It has not.
Last year I called around to many dealers and all wanted ADM. They took my information and said they’d call when they got an allocation even though they knew I wanted MSRP. I got a call from one of these dealers in early April. They had an allocation for a 2023 S that locked in 2 days that someone backed out of. Originally they wanted $15k ADM. I tried for $8k which is essentially the price increase in 2024. We settled at $12k.
My car is now built waiting for a ship at port. Obviously I still wish I was getting the car at MSRP. I also feel good about my deal because in a way it’s only a $4k ADM since I got the car at 2023 pricing.
One way to think about ADM: if that extra cost was the true base cost of the car, would you still buy it? Answering that will tell you what to do.

What I have seen is if they have an allocation available right away then they want to sell above MSRP for the fact that you will be getting your 911 much quicker.... if you have to wait for an allocation and put a deposit down to get one then they agree to MSRP but my dealer told me you have to get at least a Ceramic coating from us for $2k... My friend got a GTS from this same dealer and refused the Ceramic coating and they finally OKed not for him to get it BUT he waited I think 2 years or something like that for his GTS at MSRP...

At least they are being upfront with you...I thought I had a good relationship with my dealer too (over the years I've purchased four 911s and now looking for a manual GTS). I was promised MSRP and would check-in once month to find out where I was on the list. For many months I was 2nd on the list...then I got the call that an allocation finally came through..however...I'm now 4th on the list but for 10K over we will move you up and give you the allocation. Just plain slimy. Yes, being a weak Porschephile I took it. But I may need some professional help since it still bugs me.

While it rubs many folks wrong to pay over MSRP, sometimes you can't stand on principle if you want the car. It is an exercise in futility to get at the end of a waitlist without an ADM. When or if they do call you, there will have been additional price increases and probably the 992.2 will be out by that time, and you may not like the changes and the new price.

If its worth it to you then do it. I use Stub Hub to buy sports and concert tickets all the time over face value. Personally I am too frugal in principle to pay for ADM but I can understand how others have no issue with it. And consider that if financing that $15k can be more like $20k

I just read an article about the RV market tanking now with huge discounts available. My old Audi dealer is offering discounts off MSRP, they keep hounding me with emails, letters and phone calls. With the recession here most companies are cutting back on expenses. My company has a hiring freeze, travel restrictions and the bonus paid $14K less than last year in the same quarter. Things are not looking good overall with our economy. And yet Porsche still has pricing power. How long can they keep it?

Keep in mind that if your on a wait list, chances are you might be looking at a 2025 which will most likely have a price increase. And it's anyone's guess on what the new 992.2 MSRP will be. I locked in on a 2023 Carrera base and a month later 2024 MSRP went up around $8,000. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Have to agree with the above comments that quicker you want get your car almost certainly means paying a premium. I paid the ADM and did not look back at the time. Looking back now if I waited there has been two price increases wiping out the ADM I paid. I would expect more price increases as the cars won't get any cheaper. Additionally I had no relationship with an SA as my C4S was my first 911 and when calling dealers in my area and around the country it became clear on how I wanted to spend my time with Porsche dealers. I could talk about how I want to buy the car or just jump straight to buying process. I simply started talking about what would it take and said what if I gave you x money what doors would open. Most SA's changed their tune and real convos occured until I got what I wanted.
In my opinion 5k on a140k is 4% is fine. One price increase from Porsche will wipe it out. Get the car and stop wasting time with SA's and start enjoying the amazing car.
