Default Wind noise in a Targa with the roof closed

I just purchased a 50th design anniversary 992 911 TARGA 4 GTS. I have had coupes in the past. My last 9/11 was a 991.2 4GTS coupe. Great vehicle and to this day sorry I sold it but so far (3days ownership) I am loving the TARGA four GTS. So far the wind buffeting that people talk about in a Targa is a noticeable to me, but I haven’t driven with the top down much. My biggest gripe is with the top up. The wind and noise that gets through is terrible. Does anyone know if there is an adjustment they can do for this, is my window not going up high enough? Anyway, thank you for the input and once I drive this more I hope to write up a comparison between the 4 GTS991.2. coupe and the targa.
Thank you for any input in advance.

We all have wind noise; and I don't even have a sunroof. Just a slicktop.

Aside from the glorious engine and mechanical noises, wind noise in my Targa isn’t something that I have noticed — it’s quite coupe like with the top up.

Like detansinn said, it’s coupe-like with the roof up. I have no unusual wind noise that would sound like a window being cracked open. Hope you figure it out - the car looks beautiful with the platinum colored wheels and hoop!

I have a 2022 Targa 4S. No significant difference in wind-noise from my previous 2020 coupe.

You likely need an adjustment of the targa mechanism, as you should not hear any significant wind noise with the top up. While I think my coupes were a bit quieter than my targa with the top up, I have phone conversations with almost no noise at all. Take it back into the dealer and have them adjust a bit, it is probably the big latch in the center needs a bit more constriction on the targa latch to seal it more.

PS. Great looking Targa!

sounds like you need to have a visit to check seals and roof alignment?

Congrats! The car looks really nice

For your wind noise, I haven't had a Targa so I'm not sure exactly on suggestions for you, but in addition to the targa roof mechanism thing other posters mentioned, have your dealer check to make sure windows and things are proper.

When I bought my cabriolet the passenger side window was not correct from delivery off the truck and had a decently sized gap
(some manuf error and qc miss in the factory maybe), maybe somewhere between half inch to one inch gap from proper, which took me a few days to notice as, if I recall correctly, it was not a noticeable issue with the top down, only with the top up, and I don't carry passengers in my 911 so the passenger side was not something I paid attention to. Actually my driver side window still has a small gap from proper, maybe millimeters, which can be a source of wind noise (only noticeable during the heavy rain, sometimes I can feel tiny bits of water coming into the car and landing on backside of my arm from outside, even if all windows are "fully rolled up", etc.)

I noticed that you had rain on your car in the pictures and if I recall correctly the car you bought had delivery miles, so maybe you noticed something similar to what I experienced on my cab and one/some of windows need to be adjusted, if it is the window adjustment (minor thing afaik) will eliminate the wind noise issue.

ps. I don't really use the AC ever, which has an added bonus of making it a little easier to detect the source of various noises, something to try if weather allows

I have not noticed wind noise in either my former 2017 Targa 4S or my present 2022 Targa 4S. I do have an intermittent rattle in my '22 from the removable bar that connects the two side walls of the interior behind the front seats, under the Targa glass and just above the the rear seat backs (whatever its called). It's going into the dealer to have "Cluster 37" installed in a couple of weeks and I am going to have them look at this rattle.

I also have a 2022 Targa 4S. Moved from 991.1 Cab S. Targa much quieter than Cab--top up or top down. Don't notice any particular wind noise, and also do not have any issue with buffeting when top down/off.

I notice this as well. Over 60 mph there is some some wind/air sneaking in through what sounds like the edge of the window where it meets the Targa bar - not loud or but noticeable. My 991.2 Targa did not have this issue though. I'll bring it up with the dealer next time I take the 992 Targa in for service.

There is wind buffeting (rather "a drumming sound") in the cabin at 35 - 45 mph, just the speed I tend to drive in slower city traffic. After an hour long test drive I passed on the model. But they are popular, someone bought the $220,000 CAD example a week later.

Try some Gummi pfledge on the seals. You should use this regularly on all rubber anyways. Cheap and effective. Will help to seal all windows and tops.
