Are you getting the spark plug change as part of that, or is that at 30K?

 

Couple of points
1. It was the finance guy at my dealer that said "You have up until year two to add this". So before we go knocking all dealers, mine was the one that clued me in to this -and yes, it was late on a Saturday and I think he wanted to go home, but still That does reflect on the "dealers don't make that much money on these things" however.
2. This is a little like the tire and wheel package. At the end of the day, there are lots of ways to save money - but for peace of mind - e.g. "I want to take my car to the dealer and worry about nothing", this is a solid deal. My indy guy screws up my oil change and I have to trust him to put in a new engine - or fight him on it - where he says "not my fault, take it to Porsche and Porsche says "wrong oil, not our issue".. Porsche does this and I'm in the clear - 100% their problem.
3. Obviously some people have dealers that don't gouge them - I'm in Chicago and as such, they appear to over charge us - so your location/dealer can also make this worthwhile or not.
4. As noted, a dealer can't over charge for this, but I'm sure some do - @23109vc I think I saw your thread and in it, it said the 20K had already been done - that's weird, cause you can't buy this if the car is more than two years old. I'm wondering just how unscrupulous your dealer actually is/was!
5. Totally forgot about the loaner - that said, my dealer provides an incredible environment to work in - I have a nice cubicle if I want it, with coffee and snacks, power, and privacy - that's worth something to me at least cause I can get to the dealer early, start my day and keep working.
6. There was a question on price, it does not look like it has changed in a long while - below is what is on my contract (interestingly it notes that it excludes California!)

 

The maintenance book says it is not until 30k miles, so I'm assuming it is not covered.

 

I always buy this coverage, but ran into a problem this year. With Covid, my daily mileage dropped tremendously, so I ended up having to do the major service at least a year before my mileage would have dictated. These things are time based, not mileage based. In normal times, my mileage would have been much higher by now and the plan would have been fine.

 

Agreed, I (and everyone else should) decline all add-ons at delivery.

 

Waiting for buy later could cost you more money. The way prices have skyrocketed, don't be surprised if the maintenance fee costs 30% more next year. So in the end, how long will you keep your car?

 

See above - the price has not changed for the last three years. While waiting always has some risk, I would argue that the risk of buying early outweighs most cost increases.

 

I bought the PSMP+5. What’s another $5K at this point, right? Plus “wheel and tire” care. The way inflation is going who knows what it will cost two years from now much less five. I am a great rationalizer and my logic, whether it makes sense or not, is I only have to argue with myself one time for making that expenditure. Now that I’ve done it, I don’t have to think about it anymore.

 

If I do it I’ll buy the 5 year also. I asked on here if there is a PCA discount as is if you pay as you go but I guess no one knows. I’ll just ask at the dealership 👍

 

As I tell my kids and staff... the answer is always NO unless you ask!

 

I was quoted the same price in California. The difference here, is that it’s fully refundable for any unused service.

 

There is not a PCA discount. It is marketed as a one-price, no haggle which is why dealers are not supposed to discount it or mark it up.

 

Just for fun, I emailed the finance manager and sent him a copy of the page that lists the actual Porsche MSRP for the plan and told him if he would refund the difference, I woudl consider retracting my request for a refund.

I just want to see what they say.

Even as $5685, I think it’s a wash. I think the service would cost about that much or a tad less. Plus I am not financing the money if I get it back now. I can pay as I go and I think I’m saving money.

I have PSMP+4, going for my paid service, 20k/2year, soon - I feel like it was good value when I got it, since it locked in a price and made things simpler

I browsed through one of the recent threads regarding service costs for 2yr and my takeaway from it was "I saved myself from a lot of stress by just ponying up for PSMP at purchase time." For me, the only headache is "when will my car be serviced" until the 5th service, thats peace of mind you aren't going to have if you pay for things regularly.

PSMP Is attached to the VIN
The sales people tell you that increases the value because it transfers with the car, so if you decided to sell it on private sale, you would be able to increase the listing price. Dealers will tell you it doesn't add value because they'll CPO the car or whatever but thats BS because the PSMP never disappears from the car, even if you do sell/trade it, which means any future owner would also be entitled to PSMP benefits.

PSMP has value, anyone suggesting that it doesnt is trying to low ball you. Its that simple at the end of the day
