I passed on the extended warranty at time of purchase (new) thinking I'd revisit it when the original factory warranty is approaching expiration. Will that cost me more?

You lose the longer timeline (up to 10yrs) and it will cost a bit more as they will keep hiking prices.

I don't get this at all. Isn't a concurrent warranty redundant to the original factory warranty and a complete waste of money?

One question: I can't find an obvious inclusion or exclusion of the cabrio or Targa roof mechanism and associated stuff (roll bar and electric screen on the cabrio) in the Porsche or Fidelity docs and cabrio is what I'm trying to buy. Is a failure of those a mechanical breakdown in the language of the policy?
Fidelity excludes the top itself, but the mechanical mechanism is included in the coverage.

Yes. However, it will be more pricey (or impossible) to get an extended warranty at the end of Year 4 (factory warranty ends) for additional 6 years or up to 100k compared to buying the extended warranty in Year 1.

David, the Porsche VSP Platinum is a little better than the standard warranty in a few respects, but the main reason for buying it early is that you will get a better price, although Porsche will have your money for longer.

Are there any Porsche dealers who will sell extended warranties online for a discount? I've seen this with every other auto brand and have always been able to get good discounts for extended warranties closer to expiration of the factory warranty.

If the cost difference is not huge, it makes sense to me to wait. This is because people may sell their cars before 4 yrs are up, or the car may get into an accident and get totaled or even if not totaled, the owner would rather trade it in before 4 yrs rather than keep driving a repaired car for 10 yrs, etc.

Has anyone found if there is a lot of variance between different dealership pricing Porsche's Platinum VSP?

Ideally your local Porsche dealership would be used to waive the $100 deductible, but if were able to find a nationwide dealer offering warranties at a discount we may come ahead?

I agree with this. I think Porsche's extended warranty (and I think BMW does the same thing) goes by the in service date. That is why I like the Fidelity Platinum Warranty which kicks in when you buy the policy.

My orignal warranty runs out soon and I look at Fidelity and Porsche through dealer. At 60 months added after original warranty is up Porsche quoted $5,100 (60k miles) and Fidelity $4,000 (75k miles). The added miles are not of interest to me as I don't drive enough to get there per year (9k vs 12k per year after subrracting what I have already). The exlcusion list from Fidelity reads a little longer and, of course, the Porsche dealer promises seemless handling of repairs when using their in-house extended warranty. To be honest, at $1100 difference for a 5 year extensions I probably stick with Porsche. Also, someone above mentioned one advantage of fideity is that you can get portions back you did not use when selling the car, I was told the same is true for Porsche's plan. I also look at it from this angle - if I ever sell the car, having an extended warranty can't hurt but help selling it. Its also cheap enough of an insurance for major issues to me... my 30k service was $2700 and a $5100 5 year extended warranty sounds very cheap compared to that.

PS: prices quoted are for $250 deductible....not sure why anyone would choose $100 and pay more for the extended warranty.

Am in the same boat soon with my 2021 Carrera T. Did not get any extended warranty at the time but plan to keep the car for long past original warranty expiration. So it may be time to look again. Have had Fidelity in the past for two other cars..an Audi Q5 and a Range Rover Sport and in each even didn't use them but got the refunded prorated amt when I sold the cars so that is helpful but not as much. Also guys check with each plan as some extended warranties do NOT stay with the car when sold/aka transferable so don't buy one thinking it will increase your value on re-sale as it may not be true..check your paperwork.

Following this thread with interest though...

This is why I buy Fidelity warranties. I have used them on multiple vehicles with no issues with payment for repairs done at the dealership, including a DSG transmission replacement on an Audi. I have purchased from both FDWarranty.com and Steingold Volvo...both of them are franchised automobile dealerships.

I had a 2012 C2 PDK which I drove everywhere and was nearing 200k km. In 2018 I had an inspired moment and decided to take the 2y extended warranty from Porsche. In 2020, the first gear started being a little gruff when cold. Porsche took the car in, swapped the pdk at a cost of what I remember was c. €27k including labour. They initially were a little reluctant because the front tyres were M0 Mercedes tyres, a genuine mistake from my tyre shop, but after a frank conversation with the dealership it was all approved and replaced within 48h.

My take; the $2k per year is worth it.

Thumbs up Warranty info

I'm looking to buy a 21 Macan with 2 years left on factory warranty and 2 more years of CPO (it has 12000 mi). In 3 1/2 years I am thinking about getting an extended If I want to keep the car depending on how reliable it has been. I'm retired, and I don't plan on beating the car to death. I'm hoping the problems everyone talks about are from driving the car hard all the time ( Y/N ? ). My CRV is 4 years old with 31000 mi. I only needed to change the oil and two tires. In 4 years the Macan being 6 years old with 36,000 mi, I better not be having major problems.
