Because most customers are probably fine with the standard shift lever. Don't forget that minor things get amplified in enthusiasts forums (Porsche or not).

I think it is the "exclusive design" that makes it expensive. I changed my interior trim to the CF exclusive design type and it was expensive. The center console in silver costs $300 more than the dark silver, maybe the lighter silver costs more to manufacture? This shifter is the final piece that I need to make it all match but I don't have any desire to take that center console apart again to install it. So I will have to live without this exclusive piece of trim.

it appears to be machined aluminum with a leather strip. Way overpriced for what it is, but it still looks better than the standard piece.
I’m happy I spec’d it on mine.

The optional PDK shifter just reflects the nature of almost all 911 options; whether alternate color seat belts, additional leather here and there, basically everything. It is a much nicer piece than the standard shifter (though the standard shifter matches the switch gear). The Ali Express doesn't look half bad, but they should offer alternatives to the alcantara **** (smooth leather to match interior).

On balance, I think it's worse than the standard gear selector. It does not look any better, and its bigger size gets in the way of buttons and switches above it.

I have read however that the standard shifter sometimes has cracking in the plastic surround.

Agree, it’s not very nice. Standard one isn’t any better…they both suck.

I changed my mind about optioning the upgraded selector as soon as I saw it in person. Ugh.

I have to say, the stock one with the carbon inserts looks pretty good. But it looks like you have to buy the entire center console kit to get it.

They need to poach some AMG designers. Their exclusive team is way too conservative with their designs.
