The world is not changing , the model Y is the biggest selling car on the planet with rave reviews. Consumer Reports is a corrupt publication and had always been.

 

Oddly the C8 is the first Corvette I've ever liked. Gimmie a Z06 in that metallic orange and I'm a happy boy!

 

Actually, 3 different tuck models, the Toyota RAV4 and the Toyota Corolla out sold the Y.

But the CR survey was NOT about who sold more. The CR survey was about asking current owners the question: “Would you buy again”. Basically, a “satisfaction” survey.

As far as “rave reviews”, all the automotive sources are beholden to advertising dollars, and those “rave reviews” can be bought/ influenced. To be frank, it’s been a very long time since I read a truly critical/negative review from any major automotive rag.

 

I think C8 generation corvette loses its classic design language. No doubt it’s an engineering masterpiece but very in cohesive design. GM has tried to follow Lamborghini really hard. I’ll admit that these things are very subjective but C8 hasn’t grown on me yet.

 

It's 4th on the list. Impressive but 4th, not 1st.

 

Corrupt, that's funny. The list is from the results of an annual survey. Porsche was also the most satisfying brand. Tesla was third, by the way.

Here's their methodology:

"Results are from the 2022 Annual Auto Surveys, involving more than 300,000 vehicles. Data from the 2020 to 2022 model years (plus a few 2023 models) were used, provided a vehicle wasn’t significantly changed over that time. Some ratings might be based on a single model year. The owner satisfaction score is based on the percentage of owners who responded “definitely yes” to the question of whether they would buy the same vehicle if they had it to do all over again (considering price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.). Ratings and scores for the factors were determined based on the percentage of owners who said they were very satisfied."

 

OBSERVATION: “brand” customer satisfaction, and “model” satisfaction can yield very different results. For example, no Teslas models appeared in the top 10 for 2022-2023 model satisfaction; while the “brand” index, broken down into two groups: Luxury and Mass Market, show Tesla tied with Cadillac in 6th place in the “luxury” category. While Porsche 911 was #2 in the “model” satisfaction survey, but did not appear in the “brand” (not sure why…it had been in prior years?)

Personally, how consumers rate a “brand’ is far less relevant to me, than how consumers rate the specific car I am interested in. Using the analogy I gave to my two boys, when they were trying to decide on what colleges they wanted to apply to…I said, rather than focusing exclusively on a college “ranking”, look more closely at the field, or fields of study they wish to pursue, and how a department is ranked in the colleges they were evaluating. Some colleges may have an high aggregate ranking, but ranked low, or not at all, in a particular field that my kids were interested in majoring in.

The study found that drivers who own a so-called mass-market car are most satisfied with comfort, dependability, driving performance, and safety; these areas all scored 81 out of 100. Drivers are least satisfied with warranties (75) and fuel economy (74). In the luxury segment, drivers are happy with comfort (84), interior (83), and safety (83), though warranties and fuel economy sit at 79 and 76, respectively.

 

They got the rear end of the C8 all kinds of wrong.

 

Wut? They are probably the least “corrupt” (odd description) of the car reviewers. They don’t take advertising dollars and buy/pay for for all the cars they test.

Just doesn’t fit in with your Elon/Tesla love so they must be bad, right? I see you like his taste for misinformation as well.

 

There are sure some really boring and ugly cars on the list but I guess that is not what the survey was. Just surprising owners of a maverick really love it so much they would get another one again. For myself, I should be happy I guess, I own 3 out of the top 10 (Miata, 86, 911) and would not call any of them boring in particular as all 3 have great aftermarket support to make them special.

 

Do this list in the UK and only one of these might make it to the top 10 - I think I know which one!

 

I assumed that response was sarcastic Musk fanatic bashing…

 

I suspect something deeper, or shallower, depending on your perspective.

The thing that is usually nice about the RL forums is that while we all come from varying backgrounds, unlike other places on the web, we choose to focus on our wonderful P-cars and not bring other elements in the discussion. Most of the time. I've been on other forums where unfortunately the PRSI discussion is off the charts and gets rather heated and typical of what we see in so much of society today without consideration of others or any real decency. That is what is nice about these forums, most of the time.
