What is your "beater" - looking for recommendations

W220 S Class (Very cheap cars $$ but under the radar and comfy as can be). 100 series Land Cruiser/Lexus LX.
Love unique cars from the early/mid 00's-2012/13. Some manufacturers were at the pinnacle of engineering/quality during this era before cost cutting came into mass effect.
Looking at switching into a 2013ish Toyota Land Cruiser or Lexus LX 570.
Rule of thumb for me is keeping my daily/beaters as something that's a polar opposite to my 911. Makes the 911 that much more special.

I'd steer clear of the F30 4 cylinder. My BMW tech thinks it's efatally flawed and likes the G20 engine better. How about a low miles E92 or E46 6sp coupe, with Mike Miller's (BMW CCA maintenance guru) "lifetime" maintained schedule (above and beyond BMW's with regular trans, diff, brake, coolant changes). My 328i coupe is a sweet drive with excellent handling, adequate performance, and at 12 years and 110,000 miles remarkably trouble free.

I'm going to give you. a slightly different perspective. Given your GTS and the wife's Macan, you have luxury/sport/status well covered. To get something as a beater that is a badge you are used to looking at means (likely) a much older car. The luxury cars come with the potential if not likelyhood of big repair bills. If I were you I'd look at something like a used Acura MDX, RDX or Lexus. They sit nicely between the luxury brands and have (generally) very good reliability and lower carry costs.

This really depends on the definition of "beater". In my book, a late model Cayenne is not a beater. A beater is like older Subaru, Honda CRV/Civic/Accord, Ford Ranger, Chevy Malibu... Especially for $10k-$15k.

I don't have a 911 yet, but my beater is a B8 S4.

2016 Macan S - I refer to it as my “beater Porsche”.
It was $39k with low miles a few years ago. But I think there are similar higher mileage options for around $20k now.

I agree with you... but a first Gen Cayenne can be had in very good condition for under $15K... I think that is very close to "beater" range if not smack in the middle.

For $10-15k, a used Lexus would be my choice. Reliable and luxurious.

I have a 2022 Ford Ranger for my second vehicle. If I could do without a truck I would try to find a used manual Bug, GTI, Jeep, or something like that.

My ‘20 992C4S was my daily beater with an Alfa 4C Spider as the fun weekend car. I parked the 911 in cities, drove it everywhere in all seasons — it was totally fine.
Now, I have a 991.2 Targa as my weekend car and an incoming F150 Lightning as my beater. Much to be said for an EV as your daily/beater.
Life is too short to drive around something boring all week long. Also, there are risks to driving around something with older safety systems. A 911 is meant to be driven.

i don't know if its a beater but the best DD Ive had is a 19 M2C.
60k on it hasn't missed a beat never a drop of oil and the original MPs lasted 40k with one track day.
Don't know what to get when the time comes?
Want some thing quick that handles well with a MT and can carry my bike and has to be a two door.
The list is really small thought about the new M2 but its ugly and 300lbs heaver and no quicker..

I don't have to commute most days, but the days I do I take my partner's Tesla Model S. Not my favorite car but acceptable for doing a few hundred miles without needing to charge until I get back home. My last personal "beater" was a GLA45, fun car in the snow.
