Default Has the rear end stepped out?

I’m still getting familiar with the 911 platform (~2000mi driven) but it’s propensity for snap oversteer and nicknames like “the widowmaker” still linger even as Porsche has worked its magic to make it drive more like a mid engine car than a rear engine car with each succeeding generation. So, has the rear end of your 992 ever stepped out on you?

Mine has not in 4500 miles. A few disclaimers - I've likely never really pushed it that hard and I tend to not drive it in wet situations where traction would be compromised or in cold weather with reduced grip of summer tires. Former C6 and C7 Corvette owner - I think that car was MUCH easier to put sideways.

Yes but it was cold and summer tires. Not a good combo I learned. Has not with my winter tires

You need an option for PSM Sport.

Wet pavement, cold tires, temperature under 40 Fahrenheit. Back slid out under hard acceleration while doing a hard U turn like maneuver. Sport mode and all stability options were enabled. It didn't feel scary, it was fun.

Yes: cold, wet and Eagle tires are not a good combination.

Just a minor butt wiggle at full throttle, Sport mode and all nannies on. 30-40f temps on summer tires. Very stable -- not scary at all.

When it was 70f+ zero drama.

Now with a BMW F82 M4, that was a disaster!

Yes for me.

Accelerated too hard while turning and the rear end slid out for a second before regaining traction. The fact that I was on PZeros at 40F didn't help.

Every sports car with enough HP can slide out. A 911 isn't going to ever slide though if you're just driving normally unless you're in snow or heavy rain.

It seems like the common theme here is watch your tire temps before you give it the beans, as it were. I just noticed today that Porsche was thoughtful enough to include tire temps on the tire pressure screen.

My manual 992S has the most traction I've ever felt from any RWD car. It was shockingly glued hard to the ground even when I launched it and power shifted. It almost felt like the rear end would not break free.

Then winter rolled around here in AZ and with the added power from the lower temps and my stage 1 tune, the rear tires light up super easily even when the ground is dry and temps are in the mid 50s - 60s. This is with TC on or off and it happens on a dig or also when car is in 1st gear, I'm rolling along at a low speed and just punch the throttle. Tires will just spin out. I also tried launching it when it was in the low 50s and after engine fully warmed up and the car just peeled out even with a relatively soft launch and the rear started sliding sideways a bit.

It's so much power that I'm thinking of getting a 4S if I upgrade my 2S in the future even though I live in AZ where it doesn't rain much or snow.

This is a great discussion. I was test driving a GTS with one of my kids in the back and we were on the on ramp to a three lane highway. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary, but there it was, a skid and sideways slide until the car straightened out with a twist of the steering wheel. It just happened out of nowhere and it was intimidating. I haven't driven a sports car in quite a while, but I don't think the cause made for this kind of effect. Once I get the car, should I take it to an autocross event or similar to get familiar with it? Or what would be the best course of action to learn how to control it properly?

EDIT: This was a PDK, and similar build to my spec.

Mine did a few times, almost always when it was too cold for summer tires. It was never intentional, but it always caught me by surprise and it was fun. The 2S was nice in that way

Mine did during emergency avoidance maneuvers at about 50 mph around 70F degrees in the dry.

I did a grip limited swerve into on coming traffic lanes to avoid a person swerving into my lane to avoid a driver pulling out of a business. This was followed by a hard swerve back into my traffics lane and then it came loose when I corrected back to the left to straighten it up in the lane. Pretty incredible direction changes and very benign over steer on the last direction change. Gage showed each direction move was over 1G when I checked a while later. I have zero complaints for how my 2S behaved on relatively cool tires when pushed to its grip limit in Sport mode. Nobody ended up with any dents and I am sure the driver who caused it all went home without a clue to what they put others through! I do think the driver that came into my lane and had a ring side seat to the avoidance may have had the worst experience seeing it all.
