57 plate or wait for 23
Hi Guys/gals.
I’m new to the forum so bear with me pls if I ask a dim question
I have my 992 GTS arriving into OPC 1st week feb so I’m told, as I’m sure many others have I’ve been waiting 12 months now so will be 14 if the car finally arrives early feb which seems to be the norm. Dilemma I have is whether to just get the car registered on 57 plate or hold out a 3 weeks for a 23 registration. What’s are peoples opinions on things like
resale value of 23 over a 57 reg car
feel good factor of having one of the newest cars on the road
does it really matter either way ?
welcome any thoughts and feedback pls

Yes, sorry should have said I’m in UK. The way it works over here is new registrations are issued 1st March then 1st September in the calendar year. below is a brief description of UK plates
The format is two letters, two numbers, a space and three further letters. The first two letters are the DVLA memory tag, the two numbers (the age identifier) indicate the age of the vehicle, and the last three letters are random.
Any cars registered between sept 1st 2022 and 1st March 2023 will be “57” as age identifier, it then moves to “23”
in my case then means if I take delivery in early Feb as per stated delivery date by the dealer. I would get a “old” 57 plate and be only 3 weeks away from a “new” 23 plate, I’m not too fussed about how that “looks” but more concerned around on how if in any way that might affect resale value in 3-4 years time. I’m sure the dealer will say it won’t but the reality maybe be different, not sure. The more I think of it I might just ask them to keep hold of the car for extra 3 weeks and register as a 23 plate to take out any risk. I assume they’ll be happy to do that but I’m not sure and they might not want to

The UK’s number plate system will be confusing to most. In the US and Canada, plates are frequently transferred from vehicle to vehicle, so there is no way of looking at a car and knowing its age from its plate number. The more salient point is the model year of the vehicle, since that can mean new features and potentially better resale value.
My two cents: just take the opportunity to get the car you want and don’t worry about the +/- of the number plate. Given supply chain issues and persistent high demand for 911s, it’s probably not going to make much difference.

Current plate is 72, not sure where 57 has come from.... If they tell you first week in Feb now then it is bound to be two or three weeks late so it will likely be 1 March before it's ready anyway so the issue goes away.

The plate doesn't determine the age of the car, the VIN will when you go to re-sell no?

I believe the build date is on door jam of all new cars. That is what I would go by when assessing the age of a car.

I believe the VIN does have the build date in there somewhere. Sounds like build date is the key thing and not what it says on the plate. I’ll prob stick my private plate on it after 18months anyway but obv reg would revert back to original when selling.
Was just trying to gauge whether the digits on a number plate make any difference to a buyer at all. I would imagine the build date impacts the price more and not the digits on the plate but if your in the market for a used car and have a few to pick from similarly priced and similar build dates but one has a newer registration just maybe that becomes a differentiator and more appealing. It’s not like the other cars ain’t going to sell though I suppose…

The car will have an in service date won't it (as well as the ID plate in door jamb)?
As far as build, I probably wouldn't pay for matte black SD skirts, but that's personal. Lane change assist is terrible compared to the 991.2s. It also flashes like mad if you move over with less than 72 car lengths between cars. But some people like it. I regret ordering it on the 992.
Does the GTS offer rear wiper? Doesn't it rain a lot there? Or does the lightweight glass nix that? Sorry. I haven't been on the GTS configurator recently.

Thanks Keadog, I’m not sure about a Service date, guess I can ask the OPC on that one.
appreciate comments on the spec. I was in two minds on the side skirts, decided to go for them and then next was whether to get painted or Matt black. Saw the black on a car and felt they looked really nice, painted for me looks a bit too much, Matt black looks more understated IMO which I like. Car looks great without side skirts to be honest. The lane change assist I’ve had previously and found it useful, I know what you mean about continual flash though that gets annoying pretty quick.
I actually went for the lightweight and noise glass with privacy, as soon as you spec lightweight or I think even just the privacy on the configurator rear wiper become a non option. I don’t mind not having the rear wiper, didn’t have it on my C63 and never missed, it rains here a fair bit but not as often or as hard as people might think or Uk is notorious for . One thing I missed above is Power steering plus, i optioned that aswell, I doubt it adds much to steering but for £150 I felt it was a ‘cheap’ option so added it.

A 57 plate would have been Sept 2007!
If the car is arriving in Feb I’d register it in 1st March, will indeed assist with value as unlike the US, the year on the plate does make a difference in the UK. Plus, if you get a 72 plate, you’ll have an “old” plate a week or to later and will be miffed. The OPC won’t want you to as they will want it billed as soon as possible but it’s your money.
I was actually in the same position last Feb but my car was delayed so it was mid March anyway by the time I collected.
