Default Opinion: Painting my calipers Yellow

For my upcoming GTS, I have speccd it with yellow accents. I don't have PCCBs on it, though I would like to have my calipers painted yellow to match my accents. I don't want to give off the illusion that I am imitating PCCBs, would it be a mistake to paint them yellow? Should I just go with black?

My upcoming turbo s will have pccbs as standard.

Yes it would be a mistake, IMO. Like putting an ///M badge on a 3 series.

If I was painting calipers I would consider paint matching your car. Depending on the color that could look cool.

I’d avoid it due to backlash. But I understand your desire to tie everything together. I have yellow belts, tach, and chrono, but gloss black calipers.

Ha! This is precisely my concern. Because of this I will definitely be deciding against this.

Now, painting the calipers to match the car isn't a bad idea. I like the thought of it. I shall consider that VS black. Thank you.

I may go the route you went with gloss black instead. It seems to be the more sensible option. Unless of course I try to match it with the exterior paint as the kind rennlister above recommended.

Do what you like. But I couldn’t do it. But then I much prefer the steels. If they are red and you don’t like the contrast with the yellow bits, you could paint them black.

I dunno. The red calipers looked a bit odd on RY, so had them painted yellow. No desire/attempt to fool anyone, it just looked better to me. As with so many of these things, do what you think is best for your tastes . . .

I'd paint them whatever color you want. Who is going to give you backlash? ....and who cares?

What are the chances you will actually run into someone who even knows what having yellow calipers means ? And additionally what are the chances that someone is going to dress you down publicly for it if you do ? Pretty much zero
… people put a lot of aftermarket things on their cars that are a lot more questionable than painted calipers to tie in the look .

what’s important is you are smiling when you walk up to the car and love the way it looks .

Well said. I couldn't imagine that petty conversation. I painted my calipers GR to match my car and its not an S. Looks great IMO.

Not really backlash - the issue is that I would feel weird about it, even though no one else would notice. 99% of the things that bother me don't even register to normal people. Obviously, YMMV.

dguth posted his car on the GT3 forum - I think paint matched looks sharp. I will do this to my Arena Red 993 when it's time to do brakes and paint them AR to match.

Powdercoating is a better / more durable solution than painting

As much as I'm a proponent of "it's your car, do what you want", the reality is that the purists will judge you. Of course they won't say it to your face, but they will behind your back. For some reason, caliper color, especially yellow is a touchy area for purists. I think it's because it signifies something pretty significant. Personally, I would go with gloss black or car color matched. Not because I care what the purists think but because I don't find yellow calipers to be a color I would choose to have. I understand and respect the decision when signifying PCCBs but just from a purely aesthetics purpose, it's not what I would want. A bonus is avoiding the inevitable questions of those asking if they are in fact PCCBs whether genuinely curious or sarcastic.

my first 911 I was unaware of what the yellow calipers were all about and I painted mine to make the black and yellow theme match on the outside cause I had yellow belts, yellow trim and yellow tach in my 991.

I only got compliments never got backlash.. and loved looking at it.

my next 992 I ordered the PCCB's... at the end of the day... only haters will shame you.

I say go for it and enjoy the ride every time you look at it..

EDIT: make sure u powder coat tho.. not paint
