Default GT Steering Wheel a tad too slixk

I know, I know, suuuuuch a small complaint and I do absolutely adore my 2022 2SMT Gentian Blue Cab. But the steering wheel is just a tad slick. I wish I’d ordered it in alcantara or RaceTex or whatever grippier material Porsche offers.

I am or course extremely reluctant to put anything on the wheel that would eff it up, stickiness- or aesthetically-wise. Is there some genius solution out there?

Thanks.

Driving gloves or buy a Race Tex steering wheel. They aren’t that hard to switch or pay to have someone do it. I always thought Race Tex/Alcantara was more slippery than leather. I hate the stuff.

If you switch to Race Tex just know that keeping the wheel looking good is no easy feat.

Racetex is only grippy if you wear gloves, IMO. I absolutely despise the way it feels on a steering wheel.

Odd that your wheel is slick. Maybe it needs a good cleaning with leather conditioner. That usually returns the grippy matte finish.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like RaceTek is a bad option. I’ll think about leather conditioner but it’s a brand new car so I’ll doubtful. Thanks again.

Bad enough driving around in my cab giving off a huge "Yes, I'm that guy" vibe, not sure I should aggravate that image with driving gloves (but indeed I already own a pair!)!! But yours looks nicer.

Gonna order some Porsche Leather Conditioner and give it a try.

Here is a good write up

unfortunately @drcollie ’s cleaning solution did not work well for me, but I would start there.

You should try it out before you dismiss it, it’s really a question of personal preference. For my part, I much prefer an Alcantara/RaceTex steering wheel over a leather one, much better grip, particularly when driving on track and I don’t use driving gloves.

Is your leather steering wheel shiny when you look at it, versus a matte finish? If so, your hand oils have caused it to be that way and that also makes it slippery instead of a bit tacky like when it was new. Try this, if so, it worked for me.

ColourLock (mild or strong, I've only ever used mild) Leather Cleaner and then their Leather Shield. Use a brush to agitate and get the cleaner around where it needs to be and follow their directions (very simple, you can't screw it up).

He said its a brand new car, so I doubt this is his issue.

I also hate Alcantara, and I agree a nice pair of driving gloves is a simple solution.
