Akrapovic Install Labor Cost
#16
I can only tell you my personal experience - I removed the bumper from my 991.2 Touring, installed an exhaust and put it all back together in about 4 hours. And that was the first time. I’d imagine doing it again would take about 3 hours or even less. I’d say that’s a rough ballpark for real time.
Your shop is probably charging book time, which will almost always be more.

I am going to call another shop that a kind Rennlister recommended to me.

Seven hours is way too high...dealer charged me 5 hours on my 991 and that was the number of hours by the book that the dealers use (which is very generous in the amount of hours).

For jobs such as this, I focus on the following:
1. Has the shop done this type of work in the past? Provide me examples, Porsches in particular.
2. How long will the shop need the car? In this case, sounds like the shop needs a day as the job will take 4 hours or more.
3. What’s the out the door cost to perform the work? The amount of hours the shop needs is up to them and dependent on tools, labor, etc. You are paying for the job, not negotiating on how many hours they will take.
4. What’s the warranty on the work performed and do they stand behind their work? It may be worth paying a bit more for an experienced shop with a reliable track record.
Let us know how it turns out. BTW, the tips look great!

We usually bill 2-3 hours on 992 exhausts. Porsche made it a lot easier than previous generation 911s!

I can see someone charging up to 5 hours. I think 7 is a little overkill. It's possible to do without removing the bumper which saves a considerable amount of time. Loosen the v-brand clamps on the link pipes, rotate them down after after removing the clamps to the muffler. Unbolt muffler, replace the tips with the muffler out, fit new muffler, bolt everything up. The Akrapovic stuff fits like a glove!

Smart of OP to ask here before getting overcharged. There could be a Porsche/Akrapovic premium the shop is trying to tack on just because you have a nice car and appear willing to pay w/o questioning.

$1,100 is Porsche tax.
As stated, rear bumper doesn’t need to come off.

An amateur with pliers and screwdrivers will take 7 hours. I have basic tools and placed the 4 tires on ramps, I was able to install the APK on under 2 hours. It is literally 6 screws total to take the old exhaust off and 6 total for the tips. I didn’t remove the bumper but I did get the cats out of the way. If you live close by I can let you use my tools (all you need is a couple lugnuts and an impact wrench) and guide you through the process (nope, not doing it for anyone even if you paid me $1700 not $700).

the vband clamp at the cat takes the longest. you dont need to drop the bumper, however I didnt have to change the tips when I installed my soul exhaust.
