Default Looking for PPF shop in SW side of Chicago

Anticipating a 4 GTS arriving in January so i'm looking for some PPF installers that some of you can recommend. Its been pushed back twice already so not holding my breath that it will actually be on time. Not the best time of year, no doubt, will require trailering and some coordination. Dealer has some that they work with but wanting see what everyone else thinks. TIA

I’ve used Chicago Ceramic Garage and Jose did a great job, not exactly SW side of the City but I’d recommend him

Chicago Auto Pros has a second location in Lombard.

I used the one in Glenview for my last 3 Porsches. They do a very good job

They quoted me $11,100 for my incoming 992 T. I am a believer in you get what you pay for, but other reputable shops in the area are around half that. What am I missing?

Chicago Auto Pros in Lombard/Glenview is the best shop in the Midwest and maybe the country. You can also try the Bays in Wheeling. The co-owner, Ken, is a great guy and does PPF training for Chicago Auto Pros and other detail shops. They are expanding into customer-side PPF/ceramic, so expect CAP quality and I would imagine a little less expensive. Otherwise, Black Star in Buffalo Grove is solid. The Exchange has also done PPF in-house for a number of years and do a solid job as well.

I would throw esoteric into the mix as well. I do think PPF pricing has gotten out of hand, however. When CAP quoted me for my G80 M3 in early 2021, pricing was $7000 - for a larger and more complex vehicle. A 30%+ price increase in a year is unfounded and I imagine will not be sustained in the next 12-18 months. I know Ken well and support the bays, but would like to see more of their work first before committing $6k. I’m considering Midwest Autobahnd, as they are the provider for lake forest ferarri and a number of other high end dealerships in the area.

Midwest PPF'd my car and did a great job overall. They use precut film, so no tucking in the edges but it isn't really noticeable. Just a note that at least for me, they don't do a basic paint correction so I had to get that performed beforehand (CAP in Lombard did it for $1000). I only plan on keeping my 718 for a short time so the lower price point made sense to me compared to CAP. I would use the Bays/CAP if it was a car I was keeping for 5+ years since they go above and beyond for everything.

No paint correction prior to PPF install? That is shocking to me and makes me want to reconsider…

Talk to them about it. I know for the dealer installs, they don't perform a paint correction. It is up to the dealer to clean and prep the car for them. Not sure if is the same for something they do in-house since I know they offer paint correction if they ceramic coat. But again, it is why CAP is more expensive. Actual decontamination, paint correction, hand cutting, tucking, headlight removal, etc.
