Default Towing a PDK 992 Locked in Park

I just recently had the misfortune of a wiring failure that prevented shifting the PDK Transmission in my 2021 C2S out of Park position.
This is a really BIG problem. Dragging the car has a real high probability (~100%) of breaking the Parking Paw inside the Transmission.
This was NOT a Battery problem. There are fairly straightforward and relatively easy ways of dealing with a PDK Transmission locked in Park if it's because the Battery is dead.
There is not a mechanical way of overriding these 992 PDK's. The Shifter in a 992 is an electrical switch. There are no shift rods or cables that can be bypassed like there are on earlier/other Porsche PDK's.
In order for a Tow Company to move the car, it has to be done using a couple of very simple tools called "Tire Skates". The rub is that, as it turns out, very few Tow companies actually have these. So, in my case, AAA and Porsche Roadside Assistance sent out several Tow Companies to pick up my 911 and none of them had any "Tire Skates". It's also useful to know that when you call AAA or Porsche Roadside Assistance, the operators you will speak with are working from an automated referral system. The operators have no means of vetting a Tow Company, before the computer system they're on dispatches the Tow Company. Just Lovely. Essentially you and the operator roll the dice and hope the random number generator selects a Tow Company that actually shows up with the proper equipment.
So anyhow, the images below show what a "Tire Skate" looks like, and how it is used. Basically it's a large plastic shim that is wedged under the tires. With the "Tire Skate" in position, the car can be dragged. The "Tire Skate" slides along the ground and/or the bed of the Tow Truck while the wheel remains stationary.
A set of four (4) can be had on Amazon for $75.00. If you have an AWD, you'll want all four. If 2WD you'll only need two and you can share the expense with a friend I suppose.

Sorry to hear.

Did they ever figure out what the problem was?

I had the same issue a few months back. The car would not start because of the starter ground cable issue (there is recall for that). Note that Içit is impossible to put the car out of park if the engine is not running, even if you have battery power.

Definitely a good recommendation to have these skates.

Very useful information you unfortunately had to learn the hard way. Nice of you to post up the PSA!

I'm not trying to be a smartass, but is there any possible comparable situation in a MT car?
I wouldn't think so but would absolutely buy a set for my C4S cab if so.
Hope it's fixed soon. They are so fun to drive.

No.

Those skates look weird, a set of car dollies arent crazy expensive and may work nicer

Absolutely!! Car dollys are very common and it's hard to believe a first class tow company would not have some on the truck.
I also had a bad experience with Porsche roadside with a flat on a 991 4s. At 2am in the rain they sent out a flatbed that was not capable of making the approach angle shallow enough to allow the bumper to clear. I will never call Porsche roadside for a tow again.

pull shifter to neutral and either drag (thinking the rear wheels will stay locked if the parking brake is on - probably ok - or slide those cool things the OP talked about under the rear wheels.

We had a problem in the shop a while back getting a bricked Tesla Roadster onto a flatbed. The skates would have done the trick.

The first one uses these skates to tow you to a ground level - like a small tow truck or even just a pickup - and then the flatbed takes over from there.
They had to do exactly this, just to get my 911 out of my garage.

I thought there was a special service bolt that screws into the transmission body that puts the car in neutral? Other german cars that have the ZF automatic, do this. Not on the PDK? If not, that's a design flaw.

There is a Tool for the PDK's that were used in the 991's and 918's (Porsche P/N: 991-613-299-00), but not so for the 8-Speed PDk's in the 992's. If there is one, it's a tightly held secret. I can't find a Porsche Dealer that knows of such an item. This seems very strange to me as well.
