Default Door wind whistle solved!

Ive been dealing with a wind whistle coming thru the drivers side window for a year now and finally figured it out. I have a 2022 Carrera with folding mirrors.

I always had a whistle when my car hit 70mph and drove me nuts. Dealer has no clue. One day I decided to drive with the mirrors folded and the sound was gone. My passengers never could hear any issues on the passenger side though.

I fabricated a piece of plastic and 3m taped it to the groove on the mirror and it worked. I put on a 3 inch strip but it still worked with a 1 inch piece. Just thought I would share.

Every dealer for every issue, “this is the first time we’ve ever heard of this.”

I think they teach them to say that during training.

You can test it....just drive it at the mph you hear it....mine was 70+mph.

Open the window and you should hear the whistle. Put a finger above the mirror line and see if that breaks the sound. 1 finger width did it for me but I stuck on a 3" fin anyway.

My 991 has that groove too but tapers out gradually not as sharp as my 992..I'm only guessing that's maybe the cause who knows...but folding mirrors are coincidently associated....all the people online spreading this BS about PPf being the cause are .........

The other whistle I have to track down now is the wind noise from the center of the windshield at 44mph.. pain in the ***

How bizarre! I've just taken delivery of mine and drove it for the first time on Saturday and I can hear a centre windscreen whistle too! I thought I was just unlucky ........

Really interesting! I always thought my whistle was from the windshield-to-frame seal right above my head. I'll have to see if it's actually the mirror. That will be fantastic if it is! Thanks.

Hey by any chance did you figure out the windshield noise at 44mph? Mine happens from around 42-52mph, and goes away after that. I have folding mirrors, roof rack mount option, and a glass sunroof. The weather seals that you pull back in order to access the roof rack mounts have a slight gap, which I've tried taping over with no success.

Like most on here, we’ve all had many cars over the years. But can’t say I’ve ever had a brand with so many rattles (or whistles ) as my Porsche 911. Just shouldn’t be, on a car that is this expensive.

That said, love my 911….but geez, don’t they do any road testing of these cars (at the factory, or at the dealership) before they are released to their owners?

The engineers are no better at Honda. Our Odyssey has the rear entertainment system, and the operation of it requires you to get out of the front seat and into the rear to operate it for your 5 year old. It’s like the people who designed it don’t have young kids, ironically.

I'm not sure that it's the same as the buffeting that has been talked about but here is a solution for it.

I don't have a sunroof and still have the whistle. I put electric tape all around the window seal and drove around and it still did it. So unless the air is getting thru underneath the plastic trim on the bottom near the windshield wipers...I'm still stumped.
You should try taping it and report back. The only other possibility is something the wind is hitting outside that is causing some kind of whistle that you can hear inside thru the glass.

Actually, I sure hope the engineers at Porsche are a LOT better than at Honda?? 😳

I too had an Odyssey…and went through 2 transmissions (one under warranty, and the other on me) before I sold it.

Our old Land Cruiser was like that too. We had one when my daughter was 4-5 years old. Trying to walk an illiterate, frustrated 4 year old through a DVD menu while driving 80 in traffic is a lot of fun.
