Default Factory Wiring for dashcam

what does the 180 dollar prewiring for dashcam look like? Some proprietary connection that only accepts porsche’s dashcam or can you use other ones that look a little better intrgrated?

I have my car that’s a 2023 with factory wiring. I don’t see a thing on it. I think they might have wires buried in the mirror to add the cam but it’s not plug and play

Thanks

thats what I figured - my car arrives this week with the prewiring.

I will pull the console above the mirror and I think that’s where we will find the connector for the dash cam.

I ordered the Preparation for Porsche Dashcam (front, $130), but my car won't arrive until December. I did find some installation instructions for the Dashcam (attached), and they may provide some useful information.

Bump

I also ordered the Dashcam Pre wire , can’t see a thing. I think it would be under the cover by the mirror. Has anyone already installed a dashcam with the fsactory pre-wire?

Bumping again.

Also curious if anyone who has the pre-wiring and the Porsche dashcam can share what their installation experience was like. It certainly doesn’t sound like it’s plug and play. I pick up my car in a few weeks so will come back to this thread as well once I sort it out but any help here would be appreciated.

In addition I‘d like to know if anybody knows if the BlackVue DR900X series is compatible with the factory wiring. My 992 arrives in June and I‘d like to know if the BlackVue might be a better choice than the Porsche Dash Cam (if it‘s compatible)!?

It’s “kinda” plug and play.
You order the camera and provide your VIN which should then also get you the required harness and the camera mounting cradle.

The overhead courtesy light and plastic cover for the rear view mirror must be removed so the harness can be installed and then concealed.

The prewiring provides a switched powered connector in the overhead console.

In theory the cost and time of installation of the camera by the dealer should be significantly less.

I ordered the harness separately and used the connector to make my own harness and used it to power my radar detector and a 70mai dash cam.

The factory wiring provides a proprietary plug with a ground, switched 12 volts and constant 12 volts.

It does not provide 5volts which many dash cams use. If your camera requires 5 volts you will need to install a 12v to 5v converter.
