I signed a purchase agreement with a refundable $5k deposit for a C2S at MSRP in the middle of December of 2021 at my Porsche dealer in St. Louis. I was told at that time that I was fifth on the list and that I should have a car in 12 to 18 months. In July, I was told that I was currently third on the list. Checked in with my SA today and was informed that I was still third on the list. I beginning to feel like I am getting jerked around as I just find it hard to believe that my local dealership has only received two C2S allocations in one year. Is this amount of allocations for C2S typical for a dealership? I am growing tired of waiting and may just move on as I doubt that I will even receive a 2023 model at this rate.
Ask for your money back and you'll find out in hurry if you're being jerked around or not. I've asked my SA about Dealerships taking deposits before having an allocation and he said no way. I know every Dealership is different, but for me personally, there's no way I'd give a deposit without having an allocation in hand...especially if this is your first Porsche. I guess it might be different if it was my 10th car from the same place or something. But that's just me. Good luck.
P.s. if you want my SA's name and number send me a private message. They're in Los Angeles and they're awesome.
I placed a deposit for a C2S allocation at my local dealer in September of 2021. Called today asking about my prospects of receiving an allocation anytime soon. His response was that I am number 1 on the list and allocations will be dropping in the next week. Keeping my fingers crossed...😏
my SA did not take deposit for 4gts coupe on july 2022. I was 6th then, now 4th. Seems to not move. Next allocation would be late october he says so fingers crossed.
I think the SA's timeline is realistic. When the 992.2 announcement happens sometime in 2023 you'll see a lot of people pull off the list for a 2023 and wait for the 2024 and you might get it sooner.
Depending on the size of your dealership and the way they get allocations, it might be true they're not lying. There are so many trims of the 911 and allocations are trim specific, so there are so few of each for each dealer.
You really wonder where one is on these lists. Are they giving slots to their better customer or are customer being asked for ADM quietly to move up lists?
I have been on five lists for either a GTS or C2S at various dealers in the area for over a year;
Dealer 1 ($1000 refundable deposit) said I was 12th on the list; two weeks ago said I was 7th. For the GTS, said could be two years. No ADM. Asked for deposit refund and have received, no questions asked.
Dealer 2 ($3000 refundable deposit) said I was 8th when I got on. Was offered an allocation with 30K ADM (GTS) Asked for deposit refund and have received no questions asked.
Dealer 3 ($2000 refundable deposit) said I was 6th. No ADM; They have refunded my deposit without asking stating "they could not be sure when they were getting any allocations."
Dealer 4, not deposit not sure where I was on list. Recently offered a C2S allocation with 25k ADM...declined.
Dealer 5, no deposit not sure where I am on list.
Would have been first time customer at all of the above so no history with any.
Dealer 6 visiting by chance; had an allocation for a GTS;
Had to pay 15k AMD
$3000 Deposit placed, then a 10% down non-refundable and an order # with a TMD code.
Should be here in Feb.

My point. Meanwhile, how many other people where on their list?
My take... Of course they know what allocations they will get. This is a huge business. The sales are forecasted and planned for at least year in advance. The amount of planning that it takes to build each car is immense. Every dealer knows how many allocations they get and when they are getting them.
The waiting list game is to extract as much ADM as possible for each allocation because demand is greater than supply. Dealers hold it until the last moment then give allocation to highest bidder.
If you put down $X deposit to get on a waiting list, then this is code for "You will be waiting until we exhaust everyone else on our 'waiting list' who has a put down a higher deposit than you."
I was a first time buyer, two dealerships in area. One wasn't very helpful. Second one was put a deposit of 5k. I did and was 2nd ok the list for GTS and 11th for S. Got the build in and got the order when the time came. It all worked out for me. Took about 8 months to get an allocation. Depends on the dealer, market situation and what you really want. Allocation for certain models in certain location is hard. A dealer north of us barely gets allocations for 911.
Get on a local forum for Porsche and inquire about the dealership. Might learn something.
The list is not like the list at the deli counter-they do not go in order.
The order they use is who they can make the most money on-ie established customer or customer with a desirable trade.
Dealers need cars to sell and if some guy way behind you has a 3 year old Porsche to trade, he will jump over you. They will not forego making an extra 8-10K on the trade.
