Default drove the 992 about 7-10 miles with 1.5 Q low oil.. should I be worried?

As the title says... it came up on the 1 year change and I gave the shop 7 quarts of the C40 spec ESP 0w-40.... turns out it needs 8.5+ .. of course, the car doesn't tell you it's low for a bit.. the engine oil level needs a certain time/distance driven before it registers ... but once it did, it alerted me .. "Oil Level Critical" and it was in the red.. Oil pressure was fine, and temps were good... no issues.. am I over thinking this?

I solved the issue by adding another quart and half and it's not right in the middle.

Didn't drive it hard, just normal.. max maybe 3500rpm getting on freeway.

You should be fine long as you didn’t lose oil pressure. And you weren’t cornering hard which could cause oil starvation. That’s why I do my own oil changes

Yes. Your piston walls are scored from lack of lubrication and you should get a new engine.

Seriously though, you are fine.

7-10 miles down 1.5 quarts should be fine. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Is it knocking or making any different noises? If not, your fine.

Your engine is just fine. 1 1/2 Quarts low on an oil sump the size we have on our 992’s is nothing to worry about. Top it up, go forth and sin no more.

If your oil pressure was normal and your temp was normal you are fine. If there was insufficient oil in the engine driving 7-10 miles would have been more than far enough to destroy the engine. I believe I am correct in saying that these cars have a dry sump, and the engine is fed under pressure from a remote oil reservoir.

Thats cool, glad you’re getting good use out of it. I’m only at 13,000 - a baby by comparison!

Dealer was $2250 ... my independent (it wasn't his fault as I told him to put 7 quarts in it)... $1300... I trust his mechanic, veteran Porsche dealership trained and has worked on 991.2's a lot (similar motor) .. 10x over the random quality experience I've had with my dealer in the past.
