It’s your car to own. Don’t worry about trade in value or speculation of what the car will be worth down the road or anything. Get the car you like and use it. Money can be made back. The experience and memories you will make will always be there. For instance I like running up miles, it gets rock chips, we eat in the car and drink in the car. I valet it all the time. It’s a car after all and I don’t care to preserve it for the next guy nor do I care if what I am doing is hurting its resell value. When I am ready to move on I will accept the dealer offer on it and go to something else and begin all over again. I’m buying fun after all.

My thoughts after reading some of the responses here:
  • Buying a new Porsche is by definition spending a ridiculous amount of money on a car
  • If the main concern is resale value, buy a Subaru
  • You have to sit in it, buy whatever makes you enjoy it the most

I just took delivery of a base C2. For regular road use, it has everything you need. I was debating getting an S, but didn't feel the need to spend more on increase in HP, and a few more available options.

If I got an S or GTS I would probably be just as happy.. but with less money. Lol

The bigger brakes and LSD is probably more important upgrades on the S compared to just the higher hp.

agreed. However, not sure if I would really value those bases on how I drive. For some, they probably would benefit from it.

plan on the $48k in options losing most of their value to depreciation. If that’s ok, proceed, but why not get a S or 4S for that same $?

Heritage interior is beautiful but $. If you are worried about resale I am guessing you would lose most of that $ unless it was a private sale to someone who appreciated all of your choices. Either way it is your car so get what you want as many options are personal and do not translate into what a future buyer wants.

If that's how you are going to use the car, then I think this is a great build. As for the economics of the options, mostly that depends on how long you plan to own the car (and the enjoyment divided by the length of time you'll own the car). I intend to do something like this build as I want a GT car for touring with my wife, have a Cayman GTS for the track, and plan to keep it for a long time as it's likely the last non-electric car I buy. Everyone's circumstances are different, and I love how Porsche allows you to buy what works for you.
Ok , I'll bite. Look at those wheels on. his car . They cost 3740 . On. a Carera S the IDENTICAL wheel is 2540 . On a GTS they are FREE . EVERY option on. abase car is not only stagger priced this way but it eats up. higher percentage of the cars MSRP and value . In the end it will cost him MORE to own LESS car !!

I'll throw something else in . I am noticing used lots filling up with cars with less than 2K miles on them . Some have les than 500 miles and clearly have been flipped . In short there is NO shortage anymore . Theres. alight markup and granted cars like the Gt3 and turbo S are still insane but anything else is fair game . I am finding GTS cars with CPO under 200K . Keep in mind asking price is not what a used car sells for .

It seems like a lot of guys bought a car, waited a year , faced enormous stress with the wait time, sinking boat , and drama . They got the car , drove it a little and made a profit . Some cars have 1500 miles which is enough time to take 20 K proffer for some guys and the selling independent makes another 15 to 20 . I am not doing this with my car but if I were shopping for. car there is no way I would wait 5 months to a year (maybe more) for a bloated base car .

There is nothing "special : about being ripped off .
There is nothing special about waiting .

Go tol True car or auto trader . Used lots are filled !!!! In fact many are Porsche with CPO but what's holding the price are these Nissan, Mazda and Lexus dealerships with 911's . There are shortages on Toyotas even . Used cars at those places got wise and figure they can make more selling a 911 . They buy the car and start getting nervous . They drop the price and time bargains are emerging .

I once said I would never may an ADM on an ordered car and still feel that way . If I could have av car TOMORROW I would talk .

A 195K GTS (marked up from 165) would be more car and cost him less in the long run . It would be a better 911 and not carring . all that excess junk that he's paying for .

He likes chalk .. Here ya go https://www.truecar.com/used-cars-fo...2-porsche-911/

I went to their website . It has 480 miles .. haha . AND CPO. https://www.porschedelaware.com/vehi...de-id-47795718

They have many more like it in other colors for less all over the place .There are base cars fir less than his car !!!

My 2 cents would be to drop the Burmiester. It reallly isn't that much better than Bose unless you plan to sit in the driveway listening to it. These cars a noisy enough on the road that paying for high end sound doesn't get you real improvement. Second I would drop the Race Tex roof lining. How much time do you plan to spend looking up?? THEN, I would move to an S. Spec that and see what you think.

I agree with the poster above ^^ regarding audio in cars. I am an audiophile myself (B&W 804 D4 and Mcintosh Pre amp, amps etc) but with all of the road noise, I have not heard a system yet in a car, that can highlight the intricacies of sound many pay high dollars for at home. The other item is the heritage collection, I would personally not go with it as it may impact sale/trade in when you upgrade or get the next model 911 It is totally a personal preference though. Otherwise, I really like the build, looks like you put a lot of good thought into choosing the options!

I would get rid of Burmeister and Black wheels. Supposed to be classy spec with Heritage interior and black wheels just don’t jive with that imo.

I can't believe a dealership would actually let him order the car without a large non-refundable deposit. I got a 2013 991 S with a $15k discount. Over built and the guy selected manual 7 speed. Dealership was honest about the over built car and ate the loss. That will be the highest base 992 in the USA without a doubt!! Still think the sales manager will step in. Enjoy!!

I don’t understand. This is his car, order what you want. Plus, if the allocation is for a base, you can’t just order an S can you? I would love to order a Targa 4S, but my SA says to plan on a two year wait. And if I received an allocation I would build it with the options I wanted without worrying about resale value.

The best I could do with a Base 911 was $214,695.
You are of course welcome to do better . . . .
