Default 2022 992 allocation changed to 2023??!!

Hi all, I'm looking for some feedback on a frustrating development in my 992 order journey. I put down a deposit on a 2022 992 in March, (agreed to a 10k ADM), got the commission number and a Eurodelivery date of Nov. 2 from Porsche NA. The dealer pushed for me to finalize the build in May, saying that the car would lock "soon." I wasn't too surprised that "lock soon" turned into "we don't know when it will lock" and then into "the factory is closing for the summer and both your lock date and build date are now unknown."

Yesterday though things got bizarre. I got an email from Porsche saying that I would no longer be buying a 2022 922 would now be buying a 2023 (at the higher 2023 prices naturally) and that my Nov. 2 European Delivery date had been cancelled with no build or pickup date given. I can't help feeling massively annoyed at both Porsche and the dealership for this "customer service." And I can't wrap my head around the idea that Porsche thinks this is an appropriate way to communicate that they're modifying every aspect of the car purchase agreement including the price.

I don't think it's too much to expect that my sales person should know that this was about to happen and would give me a heads up. But when I informed the sales person about this new development, he claimed ignorance -- which isn't confidence inspiring. He also defended Porsche with the usual excuses -- "Pandemic, Supply Chain" -- all of which is certainly true, but doesn't in my mind justify the crappy customer service.

Am I overreacting? Has anyone else had this happen to them? Do I stay the course? Should I fire my dealer and find someone more competent?

Thanks for your insights and for letting me vent.

Steve.

It sounds like they took your deposit without an actual allocation. Ask them for a commission number and confirm if your vehicle status is v200. If it is not, demand your money back and find a more honest dealership. The good ones won't ask for a deposit until you have an allocation and an actual estimated delivery date.

Hi pacent, thanks for your response. I did get a commission number -- which Porsche then changed to a new commission number when they sent the email notification of the build-year change.

Did your dealer confirm the pricing would be changed? There are others on this forum that got notice their order changed model years but they would keep 2022 pricing. If they changed the pricing on you, I would ask my dealer to give up some of the ADM if they can't get the same deal for you. It never hurts to ask! Good luck, and I am sure when your new car finally arrives you will quickly forget this as a minor bump.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I originally put down a deposit on a GT3 almost 3 years ago. The one important stipulation is I wanted to do ED. I gave up around Oct of last year and had them switch the allocation to a Carrera S. That was going nowhere but in April they were able to get me a GTS allocation. TYD had my build date listed for early July for a few months. Originally I was told ED in early September. Then with the planned factory construction, that date was gone and I was given Leipzig in November. After a lot of back and forth Porsche NA was able to give me a mid October date in Zuffenhausen.

They were adamant that I shouldn't make plans or count on the date until I had a VIN but there was such a cushion (~ 3 months) between completion and ED pick up that I thought I was safe. Heck, I even received an official email and notification last week from Porsche that my car had been built. The dealer and Porsche NA confirmed that it was a mistake but they didn't have any details on the car. I finally got the same update everybody else has been getting that my build has been changed to a 2023 and my production date is not until the end of November. For various reasons, I'm out. Granted Covid caused a huge disruption here. But I'm TOTALLY pissed. Three years of trying to plan this and it's all gone to ****. I think there are a lot of us in the same position. It's a mess.

His excuses are not wrong. Between supply chain issues, production problems, the war, things are really a mess. But at the end of the day, yes, Porsche really did a lousy job of handling this.

Cancel your order, get you deposit back and wait for a .2 at MSRP thru another dealer via ED which should allow for greater geographic shopping power.

The dealer is playing games with you. Call PCNA and they will confirm all 22’s rolled to 23’s are price protected by Porsche. Dealerships all received emails from PCNA about this. You will pay the same amount for the 23’ that you were going to pay for the 22’ unless, of course, you change the build.

There are others posting about this as well and the dealers were informed at the same time they were, so your SA just may not have known yet. What you are going through is the same thing the others are too.... delay, delay... hey - 2023. They should honor the MSRP for 2022 and I believe Porsche NA has told them as much.

I had ordered my car on 11/21 unfortunately my car was one the cars totaled on The SFL Composer. I received a new allocation in April of 2022 I’m still waiting.

My SA doesn’t have any more information then I do,
he did say my car will remain MY22, he also said that 4th quarter orders will be delivered in 2023.

From what I understood is that MY 23 will not start until all 22 cars are closed.

I called 1800 Porsche yesterday to find out my 22 commission number no longer existed and was replaced by a new commission number for a 2023. When I contacted my dealer, he confirmed this and told me I am price protected by Porsche. Porsche is no longer making 2022s. My new delivery date went from 1st wk in Oct to Dec 16th.

Due to continued supply chain issues, Porsche delayed 2nd half of 2022 cars. They will be turned into 2023 models and Porsche will honor 2022 pricing for those who had one on order.

The cut off appears to be anything after a 7/9 lock date (change freeze point in TYD). Anything before 7/9 stays as a 2022. Anything after 7/9 goes to 2023 with the risk of significant additional delays.

See this link to a picture in gt3 forum. It highlights the options that are driving delays.

First when you put an order in with Porsche you should get a build sheet with all the information you'll need. Plus an email from Porsche should come soon after the build. Second who the hell are you guys dealing with? It's a very easy process when you do business with legit dealers. Do not pay above MSRP. Idiots that call and offer $100k over sticker are the knuckle heads that have run up the GT cars. Dealerships out there that fail to explain the price protections on these 2022's that were rolled to 2023's should be avoided at all cost. Post their names!! Void the deal on the ground of fraud and call Porsche. I'd call legal counsel and ask for advise.

FWIW, I had a freeze date 7/15 and a MY22 car that hasn't changed. So far showing a CP8 of 9/9. I did notice that a couple days ago TYD populated the milestones after 9/9 with travel to port, shipping, port entry, and dealer 10/7, of which some had been shown earlier but not as many other intervals. I take that as good news but won't celebrate until it happens...
