Well, since putting anything on your windshield below the AS1 line is illegal in every state, I doubt it (but, you don't ask, you don't get).............Mine is tinted too, btw
Supposedly mine is getting replaced in 2 weeks but when setting up the final appointment my SA said that
Porsche issued a notification that if they suspected that acidic washing agents had been used that the warranty
would be denied. He said it wouldn't be a problem as I documented it with Porsche months ago (It has just taken
this long to get a windshield) but that if I had brought it in now it might be a problem.
My 2022 C2S is having the windshield replaced at the dealer for this issue. Covered under warranty.
Here is a before pic. The seal is deteriorating. It is bubbled and sticky.
I'll post an after when I get the car back.
They are also putting on a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S! Going to be a fun weekend.
It seems odd that they would use a unique window seal material only on the windshield. Are the seals for the rear window, the fixed side windows, and between the center roof panel and the edge panel a different material? Why would they use different materials at these other locations? Especially the seal around the rear window (seems to be the same as the front windshield seal on my car). Yet I haven’t seen any reports of the other seals going bad. Also, my car is a 22 with 17k miles, but the seals are still good. I’m wondering if most of the failures have been in hot climates where the cars are often parked in the sun. If all the seals on all the windows eventually fail, it would be crazy expensive to have them replaced. I hope this is only a problem with the front windshield.
I am the second owner. I bought the car in November last year and it is in a climate controlled garage. I'm told the previous owner also kept it garaged and even had the official Porsche indoor car cover
I'm just one of many, but I don't think environmental factors were the main contributing factor.
I've had both my front windshield and rear glass replaced on separate occasions. Not a fun process but I'm also curious what they used on the fixed side windows, and between the center roof panel and the edge panel.
Mine is like that too. I’ve been putting off going to the dealership and asking them to replace the windshield for this issue. I don’t like leaving my car there. I guess I’m gonna have to do this sooner or later.
Rubber completely melted.
[QUOTE=MontBlanc911;18914386]Does every 992 owner have this issue or is it just for some cases? Starting to get worried of my upcoming targa.
apparently this is a widespread issue. My 2021 992 had the exact same issue. The rubber around the windshield literally melted to a soft gooey mush. Noticed while washing the car when the tar like substance got on the drying cloth. Porsche service advisors explained that is not the actual seal but it is a trim piece. So there’s no chance for water damage. They replaced the entire windshield under warranty and had to re-calibrate the camera that controls various functions, PAS, hi-beam assist, cruise control. It was annoying because there were problems with calibration after they replaced the windshield that ended up having to also replace the camera. Not to mention I had to replace my stickers and UV treatment that I had On the glass. They wouldn’t pay for that.
Hey Guys
Have any of you had this replacement denied by dealer?
My service advisor is telling me that because my new to me 2020 992 C4S is out of warranty they will not cover it.
He says Porsche told them not to replace them anymore in Feb of this year? That it is cosmetic. Evidently it is not a factory recall like the lightweight glass recall.
I have this on both the front and rear glass, as just found by my PPF installer who can not install to the level he normally does because of the tar goo.
Really frustrating to say the least... would like to push back, but want to hear if anyone else has had a similar response.
Thanks

They are refusing to cover it under CPO at my local dealer as well, just FYI. So apparently at least they are consistently denying it. Same reason: cosmetic only, not an actual water seal. Not a functional component of the vehicle.
