key fob dead AGAIN

What’s the expiration date of the batteries? Did you get them at a local store or did you order them online? You could try getting a couple of batteries from the dealer, who are then less likely to say it’s the batteries.
The other thing common to the fobs is the car. Perhaps there’s an issue there.

2021, no issue still original battery with car 100 feet at least from FOB in separate garage. This is a software issue with the car or phantom draw being caused by the constant pinging to the FOB IMHO.
Back in the day I had the problem with my 2008 Touareg and phantom draw I traced to the HU. Ripped out the OEM one and replaced by a Chinese HU and problem went away.

Alright this is getting stupid now. I'm on my FOURTH set of batteries for both of my key fobs since picking up car in January.
Yes the fobs are being stored no where near the car(>25" away). I cannot figure this out. I am stomped. Using new 3 year expiration date batteries.
The only thing I have not tried is Faraday bags which I just ordered.

I noticed my comfort access stops working if I don’t use the car for more than a day. Curious if yours is the same? Also, location services set to “when using” for the myporsche app. I don’t have any issues with my battery life. Connected services won’t work, but it seems like it cuts down on the communication with the car. Maybe that has some impact??
yes got car in November 2021 same batteries in FOB...yes comfort access also stops if i dont use car in more then a day

Sorry forgot to add, I do have comfort access enabled and if I don't drive the car in more than 4 days it goes on a CTEK LiFePO4 charger. No issues to date, still on original battery - Duracell FWIW.
No issues on 2020 Macan S btw.

My car is on lithium battery tender every day. If I’m home and not driving the car it’s on the tender.
Sorry for the ignorance but what is HU?

Head Unit, radio/cd/dvd/... player/recorder...
I might add that you should allow the battery to naturally discharge and not place it on a charger daily. Let it rest for 2-4 days and then recharge. IMHO of course

Another month another key fob battery message. This really is ridiculous Seeing as how I’ve taken all the precautions i.e. moving the batteries more than 25 feet from the car shielding the fobs with a faraday bag and using fresh batteries. I’m gonna try lithium batteries now to see if that’s any better otherwise back to the dealer…this really is beginning to **** me off.

+1 for a Faraday box. No issues to date. Fingers crossed.

Does anybody know if there is a way they can test either the fond or the receiver on the car to see where the problem is?

Ok reviving this thread, as I think I have some ideas what is going on with these Key fobs. As just about like clock work - 3 months later, I got the key fob battery low indicator...
To catch anyone up - I had a 2020 992 C4S - had it for about 1.5 years (waiting on my current targa to get released) Which 2020's did not have the extended comfort entry - meaning it did not lift the handles automatically for you. Fast forward to 2022 and my Targa 4S was delivered and I have had to replace the batteries about 3 times in the first year and few months I have had the Targa.
So a couple of weeks ago, I had to take my daughter to a indoor night soccer practice. So had a hour to kill in the 992 targa while waiting outside for her.. With the car off and me sitting in the car (it was dark) - I noticed the key fob would flash red around the logo for nearly 3-4 minutes in 1/2 second bursts. This continued for 3-4 minutes and then it would stop. If I moved the key fob, it would start all over.. The key was actually warm due to it sending out signals. What I could not figure out, is why when the fob is moved does it start to seek again (as it likely does not have a sensor for movement..)
I got out of the car, walked a long distance away - same behavior, the fob would constantly signal whenever close to the car.
Also tested it with the frequency tester (When I got home), and yep it is sending out signals and flashing the light on the fob constantly when close to the car.
I had to either let it sit for several minutes and it would stop or get 40-50 foot from the car.
I have not turned off comfort entry (my next test) to see if that does something different in how much this fob is seeking / sending out signals (I assume it will stop it).
But even if you are not keeping your keys close to the car, the fob still will cycle a ton when actually using it getting in, around, etc. It does stop once the car is started. But that is still a ton of energy usage from that little battery in the fob to cycle that much, thus causing the battery to not last as long as what we would normally expect.
So - do not keep your keys close to the car, keep an extra key fob battery handy - once you get the message - you do not have many days left. Potentially turning comfort access off (or extended comfort access - there are two selection) may stop this. Will be testing it.
