But wait! I thought the build quality of the 992 was soo much better than 991.2 ? Hmmm

They don't

But then have you seen the latest UI in a Toyota or Lexus?

It's about a decade old.

Latest issue of Auto Express has their Driver Power Brands survey - Porsche comes in at number 1.
Average share of owners with Faults - 29.63%

Tesla is #2 with 44%
Kia #3 20.44%

I can live with PCM issues. My wife's 2019 330i has a complicated system that can be frustrating. But if build quality becomes an issue with my just-entering-production GTS, I'm going to be pissed. A six-figure car ought to be pretty near flawless or easily corrected in terms of fit, finish, and mechanical quality at this end of the scale.

looks like this reinforces the jd power study. Great car, quality needs work. 7 out of the top 10 in this study had a % of owners with issues That was better than Porsche. With only Tesla and Jag being worse. Overall people love their Porsche, even with below average quality (as it relates to the top 10)

Not for long

The Taycan is going to crush them.

No surprise to me. Rattles, squeaks, buzzing and poorly thought out infotainment system programming are entirely unacceptable. On a vehicle in this price range with the history and pedigree this marque has, one should be able to expect the best without explanation. I believe the drive-train is phenomenal and the suspension perfect for this car, but the devil is in the details. A large part of what this price point requires, is attention to the details as well as the drive-train and the suspension.

The pcm is hot garbage. Pretty much all the Porsche tech is garbage. Pcm 6 is a regression in many ways to 5. 6.1 doesn't even address the myriad of issues. I find the whole system woefully unresponsive compared to bmw.

Luckily they look and drive fantastic so I overlook this crap

Reliability has been a factor for me since previously when they ranked high, I could justify the purchase and not have to worry so much about repairs. I don’t think what’s going on now is a decline in Porsche’s ability to make a great car but rather the whole supply chain issues and they are, as many of the other manufacturers, receiving below par parts that otherwise would not have made it into the car to begin with. So far, I’ve been very lucky with Porsche and not had any issues other than a satellite radio antenna on my first 718.

I'm pretty happy - thrilled, actually - with my new 992.

The only PCM bug I've encountered is that the Bose bass/treble settings like to reset themselves to 0 every now and then. I barely notice it and have stopped bothering. Beyond that it's pretty good / fine. I think I like iDrive in past bimmers better, but it matters 0 since wireless carplay works flawlessly and I'm in that within 10 seconds of starting the car.

The bits that matter - the driving dynamics - sublime. And it's so pretty it hurts.

As mentioned in this thread it's the little things ("the devil is in the details") that not only annoy but in a car of this price range, pedigree and on which a book was written under the arrogant "Excellence Was to be Expected", should not be present.

The design of the seat belt with no vertical adjustment, the lack of a washer with the rear wiper, the removal of the AM radio band, the fact that FAL doesn't release when the engine is shut off, yes the ridiculous shaver, the removal of the HomeLink buttons, the confusion as to the reason why on US sold non GPF engines we need an oil that initially was only available through dealers... yes, little things but since they are little they should have been weeded out and sanitized by QC.

Having lived part of my misspent youth under MG Midgets, Hillman Imps and other British vehicles, the word "reliability" was not or ever used in any context referencing them.

I really could care less about what reviews say about the 911. All that matters is whether you like the car or not. Some youtubers hate the 911 and others absolutely think it's the greatest car ever. I do enjoy reading different opinions, but ultimately I'm not persuaded by anyone. And anyways, tech and infotainment are probably the thing I care least about. I bought a 911 because it's the best overall sports car for the price. Great handling, exotic looks, exotic sounds, faster than 99% of cars on the road, reliable and comfortable enough to daily drive. All I care is whether the car has apple car play or not, bonus points for being wireless unlike most cars. I listen to music or take phone calls, anything else is just gimmicky. I know what Porsche's are like having owned many of them. Reviews mean nothing, let alone comparing it to a JEEP

Love the Porsche (ie love the way it drives and looks - get tons of looks and thumbs up)….but I do find the rattles to be an irritant at times. Solution is to either crank up the music or open the windows. Other than that, no complaints (knock on wood). I’ve given up running to the dealership everytime I hear a rattle.
I've got a 2016 M3 and I keep it around because its bulletproof. It does have some rattles but mechanically and from a tech perspective its been flawless.

As for this JD Power review... more and more these are good to judge the level of nuisance you'll have with a car. Mostly little buggy things but it does actually matter for the ownership experience to not have glitchy tech and issues. Reliability wise I feel like most OEMs are building cars that will be reliable in their first year with the exception of Land Rover. haha..
