They are F-5s, not T-38s . . . from Canada, equipped with early F-18 cockpit / HUDs. . . . very nice fliers. My last tour in the USAF was as an instructor in the T-38 - the F-5 SO much better.. . . here's a video to the my first flight in the digi-camo one. . .
Looking back on it now, it seems insane - but these aircraft were "builds" just like the 992s - but a bit more involved . . . just kept plugging away with "projects" over the past 30 years and ended up here. The Porsche projects seem so quick and simple in comparison - kind of instant gratification!
The hanger door was something else though - quite a nightmare. I originally hired a door company to do the design, and got partial plans, but then they went bust and left me to finish the design and construction myself. Its giant - 120' x 26' tall - weights 170,000 lbs. It's powered by 2 10" 3000PSI hydraulic cylinders w/ a 60HP 480V pump. We had to add interior stressed-cable trusses to keep it from bowing too much, but it works perfectly now. When we first installed it, the frame deflected down in the middle hitting the floor - we had to jack it with 6 hydraulic cylinders from the beams and then add new trusses to support the weight. Crazy, stupid project for sure, but quite stunning now that its done. The hanger looks like a glass cube from the outside.

SO amazing! I used to be a pilot in a former life. Went to ERAU and got an AeroScience degree and a bunch of licenses that just sit on a wall. No one needed pilots when I graduated in '92, so I had to start a new career. Now they advertise signing bonuses for them in the airports.
My business is located at an airport and we get to see the U-2 pilots that evidently keep current in black T-38s having fun in our pattern often. That looks like a fun day!
I didn't realize it at first but one of the reasons I must love 911s is the feeling of making a machine take you exactly where you want it to move.
This is a real garage! No jets, just lawn mowers big and small, snow blower, power washer, generator, tools, and my wife's car on the other side. My Golf R has to park outside now!
I'm just posting so others won't feel intimidated if they don't have an airplane in their garage.
