I wish the 992 was offered with a heads up display. On line I found several aftermarket types. My installer advises against it
because it will require a cable and looks hokey . I would ideally want one that offers a holographic image rather that a provided
projection screen. have no way of knowing in advance what to expect from the result
why? I had heads-up displays in previous cars and determined its rather useless for me (not to mention that many don't work with polarized sun glasses). Is it spunky to see info on the windshield - sure, does it provide me with any benefit I really can take value out - absolutely not.
Have heads up on my M4 is awesome, and love it. No problems with polarized sunglasses. Maybe some German companies know how to do it right?
Not having heads up on a drivers car, like the 922, is a glaring omission, IMO.
Respectfully but entirely disagree.
- as a driver I don't need to see what gear I am in or at what RPM I am at - I know it from driving the car, I don't need to tell me when to shift and I sure don't need a turn by turn navigation system to be a better driver - its fancy and maybe for some who need assistance and don't want to take the eye of the street its a nice, useful assistance but truly learned its just clutter in my face
- I had experience with Lexus, BMW, Mazda, and just before the 911 I had MB(AMG) HU's. So, can't generalize to German cars as I could see swat on my AMG with polarized glasses on.
Respectfully but entirely disagree.

Very subjective. I had it on my BMW Z4. I could not see anything with polarized sun glasses. When I could I often found it distracting. Hence, I do not miss it in the 992.
Heads up display is a bonus but not a need in my book- I only use it on my other 2 cars that have it (M3 and M8) for RPM level gauging but its not necessary and often it gets in the way of true driving line of sight (I shrink the box vs the M version). With Porsche I use the sound of the engine to gauge my shift points.
And I still use my head to see whats behind me even though we all have back up cameras...
Respectfully but entirely disagree.

Respectfully, I disagree with your disagreement. 😂
Zero issues with using polarized sunglasses with the head’s up in my M4.
Heads up are the future for all cars, whether you find them useful, or not.
Finally, there are two things, while driving on the street, that I find the head’s up to be very helpful with…in helping to keep my eyes focused on the road in front of me:
(1) Changing music stations/selections
(2) Turn by turn navigation
Perhaps one of my biggest complaints about the Porsche is having to re-direct my attention/focus from where I’m headed, to the PCM, when I want to change one of the cars’ parameters. Not as bad as with the Tesla, with having to do everything through the computer screen mounted in the center of the consul, but not good, either.

Classic HUD does not work with polarized glasses..It does not work on my MB or Audi..normally last step in HUD is passing through polarizer....Polarizing sunglasses remove horizontal glare which is the same as HUD polarizer thus eliminating the HUD...turn them 90 degrees and you will see the HUD :-)..not practical.
There are some technologies that try to work around this.

I think you have non-polarizing sunglasses.
I think you have no idea what I have. They are polarized. 100% certain of that.
That would be your experience, not mine It works fine on my 2016 M4. That said, I do have the intensity turned up, and appears brighter when wearing my regular, non polarized glasses…but still very visible with my polarized sun glasses.

You are funny - saying its a big deal having it in a "drivers" car and then find it most helpful for changing music stations and turn-by-turn navigation. Btw, your navigation screen can be right behind your steering wheel ;-) (and turn by turn also stands for the voice direction) ...and when you have to look that navigation screen frequently you are probably somewhere stop and go downtown trying to finding that new pub in the back alley.

Ya, being able to get information, whatever the information, directly in front of me, above the dash, and not having to glance down to the screen is a driving feature that most appreciate.
You are funny, too.
If you don’t find heads up useful, that’s fine. But that opinion is definitely in the minority….across pretty much all automotive platforms.

I guess you and me have different definitions of "drivers" cars. My daily commuter SUV has all the nifty comfort and convenience features I can think of to "drive" to the grocery, vacation spot, or visiting my sons in college. But I don't miss it a bit to "drive" the 911. Now wonder how true your statement is for 911 owners in general - how many of them truly miss the usefulness of a HU? Maybe I misjudge what a 911 is all about for most. I don't even have adaptive cruise control and that is probably the most single useful feature driving my commuter SUV on the highway.
The wife's BMW X5 has a HUD, as have several cars previous to the ones we have now. Is it necessary? No, Is it useful? Yes. I specifically do not have any polarized sunglasses due to the lovely (but extremely distracting) rainbows it generates when looking through the windshields on any of my motorcycles. There are a lot of options on my 992 that fall into the category of "Nice But Not Necessary". Don't even get me started comparing the "options" list from any of the 356's or '65 through '68 911's I've had. All that said, at the price point of my 992, a HUD does seem like it's something it should have, in the marketplace of today.
