Default Spare tire : would my 991 spare fit or are there other options for the 992S

I am currently on the waiting list for the 992S coupe and I had sold my 991.1S and still have my spare tire. Does anyone know if this would fit the 992S ?

If not are there any options for a spare ? I searched and don’t see any thread on it, not sure if I did the search wrong.

The spare I have is part number 996.362.120.03 and is a 195/60/17 (it clears the brakes on the 991.1S)

TIA

Why use the spare even if it works and fits into the bonnet? 992’s come with tire sealing goop and a compressor. I don’t recall my 991.1 S or 991.2 C4S had a spare just the goop and compressor.

The one time I got a flat in my 991 the goop and compressor were useless as it was from hitting a pothole, which cut a slit about an inch long into the tire's sidewall. The goop is really only useful for a simple nail in the tire or similar.

As far as i know, this spare wasn't original equipment, but could be purchase from Porsche for the 991. I don't know if it will fit the 992.

Before I had the spare in the 991 I was on the expressway and had something penetrate my tire to the point where in about 3 minutes I lost all of the air and nothing was going to be able to fix this flat. I got lucky at the time (had no spare) and just happened to be very close to a relatives house and I literally just made it. I took their SUV, went to my home and got one of my winter wheels, my jack and lug wrench and went back and changed it out. After that I purchased the spare, the last thing I want to do is make a simple flat turn into hours of waiting for road side assistance and having my car flatbedded.

Just an fyi a spare was not an option from the factory when I had ordered the car.

The 992 has 20" wheels on the front and 21" on the back so surely if this wheel did fit and was the right diameter it would only work on the front or the back not both.

Did 991 come wth dfferent size wheels back and front?

Doing the sums the 195/60-17 tyre is a close match for the 992's front (just over 2% smaller) but would be about 5% smaller diameter than the rear. So my gut feel is it would be OK on the front of a 992 but not on the back.

Am I overthinking things? Would the diff(s) cope for a short time with a 5% difference across the rear axle (if RWD) or front to back (if 4WD).

Precisely. That very thing happened to me and my wife Easter Sunday on our way to my brother's going through Corning, NY.

Why didn't you call Porsche roadside?

I suspect the problems with a compact spare tire for a 992 are: A.) Where it would fit to store it for a possible future flat tire and B.) Still more problematical, where you would put the now flat road tire and wheel?

The only thing they could do is flat bed the car to a dealer, in my case at the time having an extra set of wheels I was able to just run home and get one of the wheels and the car was drivable.

if the frunk is the same size as the 991 the spare fits in it, the flat can fit in the front seat or I have heard though I never tried it that it can fit in the backseat/shelf with the front seat moved up.

FWIW, the 991 OEM frunk liner will fit the 992. Can’t say if there is a change in depth to clear the lid.

By any chance does anyone know if this spare will fit the 992, just not sure if I should sell it unless it doesn’t fit.

When I took my road trip back in may , I brought a tire repair kit . Before I left I visited my local tire guy and got a demonstration and watched multiple u tube videos. Happy to say no tire problems. Cell service wasn’t always available. My understanding is the goop sounds good but wouldn’t count on it . Also goop ruins the tire and maybe a plug is all that’s needed. Cell service I would have always call for a tow .

In the 997 and 991.1, the factory OEM spares fit in the frunk and the the now flat road tire and wheel does fit in passenger seat. The kit comes with a large trash bag for flat tire and high quality aluminum scissor jack and lug wrench. The OP asks a good question: will the 991 system fit the 992 platform?

Quick Reply: Spare tire : would my 991 spare fit or are there other options for the 992S
