Default Wait times for Carrera S?

Hey everyone,

I was looking at putting in an order for a new Carrera S, I’ve reached out to all the dealers here, just waiting on their reply.

While waiting, I wanted to educate myself. What are waitlist and order times looking like for the Carrera S? I know the GT4RS, Gt4 and, GTS’ are pretty crazy. Had slim hopes it might better for a Carrera S.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure in your area... but in the Toronto area, it is likely 12-18 months from deposit to delivery...if you get allocation.

I put my deposit in August for a base C2, in November my build was 1st on the dealer's list with 6 others. I got allocation for a June build for an August delivery. So 12 months for me assuming my car gets built and delivered on time.

I think it's possible if you don't get allocation in the next 6 months...you may not get a 992...but have to wait for the 992.2 model given the backlog.

Not sure what the situation is in your area. But be prepared to put lots of options and pay an ADM.

Ok. Thanks, good to know. Some of the dealers here weren’t doing ADM on GT4s and GTS (718), so maybe I’ll pick out and not have to do a ADM on a 911. The wait is what it is. Pretty crazy car market.

In some respects, it's actually worse for the S cars since the GTS became available.
Take the 12-18 month estimates with a grain of salt, because unless they've got an allocation to give you, real world varies wildly and everything else is a guess. Some people don't have to wait that long.

Being on a "waitlist" is meaningless, because VIP customers will always get special treatment. The lists are for after any VIP customer needs are taken care of. How do you get that treatment? Buy a few cars from the same dealer, ie prove that you can "go all the way". While many folks on RennList choose to be a utterly transactional when it comes to buying a car, there is much to be said for building a relationship with your dealer. Those advertised, utterly massive ADMs are for people calling around and walking in from the street. Smaller ADMs and MSRP cars are happening for established clients. Heck, it's still possible to get a new Porsche for below MSRP if you've got a very desirable trade that they can mark up accordingly -- remember, the deal has to work for them too.

Good luck!

Agreed...a good relationship with the dealership goes a long way. People like me who are first time Porsche buyers need to go in stronger. I.e. my C2 base is loaded with options...while I think an established customer would have been given priority with a smaller list.

I believe in order to get a GT3 you would have needed to spend $250+ with the same dealer in the last few years

Thanks!

We bought my wife’s Macan S from the local dealer here and I’ve gotten a used M3 from them in the past, so hopefully that helps a little.

My SA said I was next in line for a C4S and if I wanted to switch to a C2S, I would be sixth. If you want a S, you're gonna be waiting awhile.

I found a good dealer. No mark up. 6th in line and said about a year wait, which is reasonable. I had one dealer say “it’ll be 3 years….unless you’ll pay us $25k over asking, then we may be able to do it sooner”

I made a deposit on an S last year in May. Just call a call today offering a GTS allocation. I'm taking it unless they play an
ADM.

I put a deposit down for a GTS is June. I had already sold my Z06 and really was put off by the wait time so I bought a 2020 Gentian Blue C2S. It gave me the opportunity to:

A) to learn how awesome the 992 is

B) I learned more about the car and was able to tweak my GTS build based on my experience in the S.

If you can swing it, my suggestion would be to buy a used 992 as a place holder and enjoy it for this season and trade it in when your new one comes in.

P.S. If you are considering finding a used 992, I have listed my GB C2S on marketplace because my GTS is getting on a boat in Emden (I hope to have it after about a year wait)

Look luck with your search!

I sold my 992 C2S back to the dealer for a 992 T4S allocation last May. My SA just gave me an update that it would come up summer to early fall. That’s about 12-18 months as others have written above. I asked whether it would be a 992.1 or 992.2 and he wrote that the dealerships have not been notified if the model will change this year.

The thought of getting a different trim level has crossed my mind, however, having to trade your car in just for an allocation is a hard stop....being without a 992 for over a year maybe closer to 2.

Just to clarify this allocation “stuff”, dealers get different allocations. Last year (January), the dealer closest to me had a C2S locking in two weeks, and another dealer had two C4S cars, one locking in March and one in April.

As noted above, I think the GTS has been getting priority, so the point is to ask your dealer “which model can I get quickest?” If you are in a hurry.

Of note, I ended up with that March allocation - got very lucky cause I “thought about it” for a few weeks before calling and handing over $10k.

I spoke to a few different dealerships and they said the wait is depending on production. Call around and different dealership gives different ETA....the best I found was a 1yr wait for one so that isn't so bad.
