Default Wrap to change color

I have a 992 TTS in Chalk. I wish I had gone with my gut (and my 4 year old son's advice, and the advice of several rennlisters) and ordered Carmine Red. Rather than ordering a whole new car just to change the color (which I've considered and appears would cost about $10K), I was thinking I could just get the car wrapped at a high end shop. They said they can do everything (door jams, etc.) so you'd have to look hard to notice. Cost of the wrap is about $4-5K.

Has anyone vinyl wrapped their car. How does it look compared to real paint? How does the vinyl hold up over time? One option is just wrap it, see if I like the red as much as I think I will, and order a 992.2 TTS in CR assuming it's even an option. But I don't know....

If you can pull off a swap to a new 992 turbo s in your preferred color for $10K, that’s a no brainer. Just do it. A really good wrap will cost close to 10K anyway and will be nowhere near as good as paint and will still have imperfections and whatnot.

oh… and yes… red is a bad *** color on a Porsche.

Think this way, it's a Bargain compared to PTS regardless of what you choose. I always thought crayon to be a bit boring, but that's a matter of taste. I buy from the lot and my car is not much more exciting (GT silver)
Advantage of the wrap is that you can do it again with a different color if boredom strikes. Some wrap material is indeed difficult to tell from paint.

I know resale of P-cars s high right now, but with ADM, and even if you can avoid it, I'm not sure how you can trade in and get a replacement TTS for a $10k delta.

There is an alternative called Plasti-dip that I have seen. A Friend did this instead of wrapping his exotic for a rally we did. It is polishable, bufferable, waxable, etc.

Looked just like the paint, and it also can be pealed off if you want to change (similar to vinyl wrapping/PPF). He did some funky colors as he was doing a charity event, but you can do any color and paint match. I think the average lifespan is 3 - 4 years.

I do not recall the exact price, but believe it was under 3K..

I paid MSRP for my car. Dealership willing to pay $40K over (for a pretrade) and sell me a confirmed TTS (locks any day) for $50K over. The risk is funny business at delivery or production delays of course.

Trade it in. Easy decision IMO.

If you are going to wrap in a standard Porsche color or try to emulate Carmine, just get the new Turbo S. The wrap/peal-able paint would be worth the investment/drawbacks if you do something funky or an extra special color. The big advantage of the wrap is that if you are on the fence, you can always go back.

Would the new TTS be a 2023? If so, then a no brained as the small cost for the trade would be offset by a year. New value. Also do you get the tax break on the trade in MA? Would you be out PPF, etc?

Mine is at port processing now:

I'm a proponent of wrapping and 2 years ago wrapped my BMW 135i - it's originally gloss black now satin yellow.

The beauty of wrapping is you are offered UV protection to your original paint and after 3 years you can remove it and return to OEM.

The shop I used wraps cars as diverse as Mclarens, Lambo's, Ferrari's, Porsche etc.

Just like ppf quality depends on the installer.

My wife is waiting for the Lexus NX 450 plug in but can't get the color she wants and a color she likes.

I'm considering just getting a vehicle then wrapping it to her taste.

Of course, the pre-trade and order new leaves you without a 911 for 4 months - if nothing is delayed.

You guys encouraged me to pull the trigger. Called dealer. Sent my build. Turns out like half of the must have options are on stop sale and/or would cause a 2-3 month delay which would put my tax credit at risk (can only be held 6 months in MA). It’s crazy actually.

So… “if you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.”

If my GT3 allocation comes through, I’ll just do that in red and “love” the Chalk. I might take my son to the wrap shop and just let him pick a color. It’s temporary. May as well let the 4 year old pick.

I was just going to say based on the over $40 and $50 ADM the $10 didn't sound bad. But my real question would be whether you had any other options besides color you wanted to take the opportunity to change/correct in placing a new order.

Out of curiosity, what of your options are on stop sale?

I’m seriously considering color wrapping my 4-year old Targa. How many miles since you wrapped your BMW and how is the film holding up? Did you apply clear PPF over the wrap?
