Porsche announced an update to PCM 6 in a Press Release dated 24 JAN 2022. The update includes the colored icons, among other changes.
These include native integration of Spotify for the first time, a revised interface design, additional optimisation of Voice Pilot voice assistant, wireless Android Auto connection and improvements for planning charging stops for electric vehicles.

Porsche refers to both software versions as PCM 6 which causes confusion. In the Cayenne forum, we call the new version PCM 6.1 for clarity. Technically, Porsche calls the new software Build 3776 and sometimes called Cluster 37. The new version began factory installation (in the Cayenne) beginning sometime in February 2022.
Rumors say PCM 6 (but not PCM 5) in all models will eventually be updated to PCM 6.1 (Build 3776). The Taycans are slowly being updated now — other models to follow. The process involves a visit to the dealer for the update. Early attempts to provide the update via OTA was bricking the Taycan PCMs.
Lots more info here in the Cayenne forum:

It also explains why my MY2021 Taycan has the coloured tiles already, after a visit to the dealership when they did the update.

Just to add clarity, no one with a MY22 and Hardware PCM 6, 911 992 (early build without colored icons) has gone to any dealer for an update to the newer software (adding colored icons)? Yet hopefully

Doesn't seem like it. My dealer hasn't called me in and I'm not in a rush to update the PCM in case there are bugs they need to work out.
