After watching that video, I think I learn to love the car without tint. With all those clips, "cones", gaskets, etc. all you need is just one of them getting lost or forgotten and you could be forever chasing a rattle or squeak.
Thats what I was thinking but I do have a really sick installer who is super conscientious.
I have a Targa GTS on the way and will be tinting the back and side windows. Not looking for anything crazy dark and thinking I will probably go darker (maybe 35) on the back than the sides (maybe 45). If anyone has tinted their Targa, please post pictures and let me know what tint you used. TIA.
Not great photos but I tried to find something that showed the tint well. My side and back is tinted enough to darken it and add some contrast, but not so much that it’s completed black, as you can still see through the rear canopy. Fyi, the right side window is down in this photo. I really like it.
Has anyone with a tinted Targa had issues with how long the tint is lasting? I reached out to an installer (very well rated on yelp) who cautioned the tint could only last 1.5 years due to the install process. They also mentioned when removing the tint there was the possibility of the defroster lines on the rear window coming off. Note, this installer will no longer do targas because of this.
Has anyone had a negative experience with the tint or defroster issues?
Also something to consider, in the NYC area I received a quote for a coupe for around 400$ for ceramic tint but was charged 1000$ for a targa. The ppf installer I used sublet the tint work out and ran the bait and switch play and held my car hostage. Take it for what it’s worth but is the back glass worth an extra 600$?
I wasn't going to tint mine but ultimately did to control heat a bit. its either 45 or 55% I cant remember.... actually looks a bit darker in this pic vs what it looks like in person. My installer had done a bunch of other targas and wasn't worried about anything long term.

I can see no reason why any particular film would have a shorter life when installed in a Targa as opposed to any other car. The “installation process” is the same. It’s just harder and my bet is your installer just doesn’t want to tackle the job.
Tinted with 35% ceramic film. Yes, you need a good, experienced installer!! Tinted in fall of 2019 - no issues with 45K miles now in 2023.
Looks like new.
