I have a Targa GTS on the way and will be tinting the back and side windows. Not looking for anything crazy dark and thinking I will probably go darker (maybe 35) on the back than the sides (maybe 45). If anyone has tinted their Targa, please post pictures and let me know what tint you used. TIA.

Hi Drew,
Just got my Targa GTS and haven’t tinted it yet, but talking to a few detail shop, they all said tinting the back glass far exceeds the talent of most installers. So just wanted to pass along the recommendation to find guys who have done that specific model before, you may already have known this, or it may be obvious. It just wasn’t something I’d been thinking about so wanted to pass it along.

Tinting the rear window is beyond the skills set of most installers. My friend had his done and removed because it did not look right. I will not tint my Targa for that reason.

I did not tint my Targa, as it is somewhat more difficult to do on a targa. A great installer can do it. On all my 911 coupes, I do tint my windows, on the targas I have had (including my 2022) I did not tint. I think both Cabs and Targas look better without. I think when the top down and windows down you get a better look than with tint. I also decked out my targa with Palado (including the back of the seats) so pretty cool view of those with clear windows :-)
If you live in a super hot / sunny environment, probably makes sense to do - so YMMV.

I wouldn't tint a targa... changes the look of the car the wrong way for me. I have seen targas with tint that was well done (I"m SUPER picky when it comes to tint install quality), so I know it can be done. Hopefully you can find somebody local to you who's done it before. Look in the 991 forum and there was a thread about this with detailed instructions on the best way to do it.

I have been considering tinting my Targa as well. There is an installer in my area that, at least on his website, shows "Molded Specific Tints" for a few hard to tint vehicles (Targa, Tesla Models S, X, Y, 3). I have not spoken to him yet, but something to consider researching,

Definitely find a shop with some experience with a Targa - looks like it requires a fair amount of knowledge…

After watching that video, I think I learn to love the car without tint. With all those clips, "cones", gaskets, etc. all you need is just one of them getting lost or forgotten and you could be forever chasing a rattle or squeak.

Just watched the entire video…all I can say is WOW…had I seen this before …our car would be clear now. Thankfully, our local dealer does all tinting a ceramic in house so the presumption would be they would take the time and attention to detail as this technician did…emphasis on ‘presumption’….
