Funny how people with an S will never ever believe that a GTS could be a step up no matter how many reviews and owners say it.

It’s also quite funny how every magazine review that raves about the GTS only does so because they were paid off. But when the same magazines say great things about the S, we can all believe it because Porsche only pays them money for the GTS reviews. Yeah, that’s it. Now I understand. 😊

Yes. But even more interesting will be to watch all the spin doctors trying to downplay. Lots of fun.

The GTS is amazing and superior to the S if you like the GTS design elements in a Base GTS vs Base S, comparison. An S with the Carbon Brakes and an inexpensive tune is only missing the helper springs from a performance stand point and the helper springs are instrumental at the high limits of performance (if I understand correctly), Agreed. Most of us will never be at those limits. All that is to say that GTS offers trims, if you like, are far better than the S. I would love to have the RaceTex seats for example. If you don't need/want the GTS accents and badge then the S may as well be the superior model for you??

Timing, it's all in the timing. GTS is the latest and greatest, marketers will always push that. Both are good, one is not necessarily better than the other. They just appeal to different people.

These comparisons are just silly. Of course you can spec an S to cost almost as much as a base GTS- but it won’t be a GTS.

You can also spec a GTS to cost almost as much as a base Turbo- but it won’t be a Turbo.

And so on…I’d rather see more comparisons to other brands. Not our fellow Porsche brothers and sisters.

Enjoy what you have and appreciate the flexibility of the 911 range that has something for us all!

Imagine being an S owner at a steakhouse eating a hamburger telling a GTS owner they’re a moron for eating filet.

Both entrees are beef, fill up your stomach, and you’re in the same exact restaurant and get the same views.

Correct.

Just to clarify…the turbo used in the turbo/S model (with variable veins and larger turbo) is far superior to the turbo used in the S or GTS (both share the same turbo). There is no option to swap out the turbo…at least from Porsche. So yes, you can spec a GTS to approach the price of a Turbo, or Turbo S….but will never come close to the blinding quickness of the turbo…and after all, it’s the quickness of the turbo that many buyers are attracted to.

I'm in the boat that the 2 need to be driven back to back with similar spec for theses reviews to be valid. At this point, I honestly don't have a definitive position on which model is best for me, butnderstand the GTS will perform better in theory. But.. Every time I see one of these reviews comparing to an S or mentioning other models, there's a hole in the story. In this case, the same organization reviewed a GTS 4 with PDK (and i believe lightweight pack) not so long ago and described the exhaust as good but muted and only rated the GTS at 4.5 stars, which is the same rating given to the S Cab PDK they reviewed. What is the takeaway? These cars are close, and my personal opinion is that they need to be driven back to back with similar spec. Not GTS lightweight manual vs base S pdk or anything of the sort. That review is invalid, and of course the GTS would be a huge step up. In my opinion any GTS lightweight manual would be a huge step up from any S, but how many people are going to spec it that way? I want to see S+PDK+Sport Pack+RAS vs GTS+PDK+RAS. Then I'll make the decision.

For me, even if it was available, the GTS was simply not a big enough step up from the S…and especially in the attributes I wanted from a car. Everyone has different priorities. However, if I were to do it all over again, I would go for a Turbo S….because I am a speed junky. My #1 priority, so yeah, 0-60 (or whatever) matters to me. My current solution to satisfy that fixation will be a power bump tune….for a modest $2,400. For a while, I gave serious consideration to getting involved with tracking on a regular basis….so the GT3 was the best option….but decided I can’t commit the time to become a regular tracker, and what I have now will more than exceed my capabilities on the track…so what’s the point?

Whatever people get, I’m sure they will love it. Porsche offers multiple variants of their 911 for good reasons - not every Porsche buyer wants the same things from their car. Just a fabulous drivers car - all of them.

that was the point the main article was making - that the GTS was more than the sum of its parts and more focused than a ‘normal’ S.

Evo would be the longest running and most respected performance car magazine in the UK.
