Default My Final 992 Spec

This Forum has been an invaluable source of knowledge for my soon to be frozen 911 order. I thank all those posters. So, I am sharing my final spec along with some rationale and hoping that it can help other Porsche newbies like me on their future orders.

1. Which model? C2 – (a) allocation was easier to get, (2) expected performance will exceed my need to speed, (3) about 10% cost differential over C2S.

2. Color? GT Silver – (a) I am going for that classic Porsche look.

3. Wheels? Carrera Classic 20”/21” – (a) looks great, (b) easy to clean.

4. Interior? Standard 4-way partial leather seat in Slate Grey with Porsche crests – (a) I like the classic, elegant, and simple seat design, (b) faster seat slide, (c) sturdier surface material since I will be loading/carrying a golf bag.

5. Premium Package? Yes – (a) seems like a good value for comfort and safety.

6. Glass Sunroof? Yes – (a) I will likely not use much but good for resale.

7. Sport Chrono? Yes – (a) not really need it but good for resale.

8. Sport Exhaust? No – (a) may hurt in resale, but not a fan of loud exhaust.

9. Quad Tailpipes? Yes – (a) looks good.

10. Model Designation Delete? Yes – (a) less badging with cleaner look.

11. Design Fuel Cap? Yes – (a) a little hidden bling.

12. Prep for Roof Transport? Yes – (a) just in case I need it.

13. Power Steering Plus? Yes – (a) SA advised.

14. Steering Wheel? Heated standard – (a) GT Sport Wheel seems to block visibility a little.

I think that’s it!

If you have time before you lock, I'd add the extended range fuel tank. 23.7 gallons vs 16.9 for $230. I have it and really like the additional range.

Only 1 item on your list that I think is a total waste of money, and that is:

Power steering plus. Power steering is not enough???

Perhaps I’m in the minority, but I’d forego the sunroof if it’s not something you’ll use. If the only difference between two cars was that one had a sunroof, I’d pick the one without. If you need to spend that $1500-2000, I think RAS would be a better option for resale. But I spec my cars with only what I want for myself. I’ve never thought about resale when I configured a car. I guess you need to ask yourself if you put that $2k into an index fund instead of the sunroof, how much would it be worth when you’re ready to sell the car and will the price of your car really suffer by that much if it doesn’t have a sunroof? Highly doubtful. I think you made the right choice by skipping the PSE. Again, I’m sure I’m in the minority, but I think PSE is silly, and if any future buyer wants a louder exhaust, plenty of options are available.

Just my thoughts… it will be a great car either way.

And as far as the extended range tank…I think only young guys would want that. At say 25mpg x 17 gallons = 425 mile range. At an average of even 75 mph that’s over 5 hours. Who can go that long without stopping to pee?! I don’t see the point of a larger gas tank.

I get it so I can fuel less frequently.

also, please don’t buy any option for resale. I highly doubt moon roof will make a difference ever…

Skip PSP. And skip the sunroof unless you personally want it.

Numbers 6-8 make no sense to me, buy the car for you, not for resale and I believe your SA is dead wrong about PSP, spend that $ on extended range tank as others have pointed out.

Quick observation?
You're making a lot of decisions here based upon perceived resale and building the car that your SA wants. You'll be waiting a long time for this car to show up. You should be making it the car that you want. Given the demand for 992s, unless you're doing some Yellow/Bordeaux (McDonalds) or Green/Bordeaux (Christmas) color combination nonsense, there are precious few decisions that will hurt resale. Again, if you're doing a custom build, build it for you.

With that, here's my more detailed feedback...

1. Which model? C2 – (a) allocation was easier to get, (2) expected performance will exceed my need to speed, (3) about 10% cost differential over C2S.
The base is a fine car. With that, the S cars are more than additional power. They get bigger brakes and limited slip differential(s). You can get performance options in an S unavailable in a Base. If you don't care about performance, you can even get a manual. The price increase is pretty modest for what you get.

2. Color? GT Silver – (a) I am going for that classic Porsche look.
The world has enough silver and black 911s, but I've given up on persuading people to go with an actual color.

3. Wheels? Carrera Classic 20”/21” – (a) looks great, (b) easy to clean.
The 992 was designed for 20/21". The cars simply look better with them. Be advised that the base brakes do look a little smallish in the 20/21 wheels if you care about that kind of thing.

4. Interior? Standard 4-way partial leather seat in Slate Grey with Porsche crests – (a) I like the classic, elegant, and simple seat design, (b) faster seat slide, (c) sturdier surface material since I will be loading/carrying a golf bag.
Are you sure that you want to do the Standard 4 way sport seats vs the Sport Seats Plus 4-ways? I personally know people that regret that decision. That standard/base seat is not awesome. If you want the 4-ways, upgrade to the Sport Seats Plus. You'll be putting your golf bag in the back of the car, not the passenger seat. One important point, the standard interior is not commensurate with six figure car. The slate gray will show just how much rubbery plastic you're getting. You will be spending your time inside of the car -- make it a nice place to be with the leather interior.

5. Premium Package? Yes – (a) seems like a good value for comfort and safety.
Agreed 100%

6. Glass Sunroof? Yes – (a) I will likely not use much but good for resale.
You will get benefit from it everyday. The glass really opens up the cabin and makes things less claustrophobic.

7. Sport Chrono? Yes – (a) not really need it but good for resale.
If you spec only one option on a 992, it should be sport chrono. You get two extra drive modes, handy selector on the steering wheel, sport response button, and real launch control. Modern 911s without Sport Chrono are lesser cars. Those who skip it are making a big mistake.

8. Sport Exhaust? No – (a) may hurt in resale, but not a fan of loud exhaust.
The PSE isn't loud. It opens you up to a wider variety of aftermarket solutions. When you have the car run in, it sounds legit good. If you're building for resale, spec it.

9. Quad Tailpipes? Yes – (a) looks good.
Personal taste here. The exhaust view is for the people behind me.

10. Model Designation Delete? Yes – (a) less badging with cleaner look.
Every Base 911 has model designation delete or simply "911", even dealer ordered cars. Badges are silly.

11. Design Fuel Cap? Yes – (a) a little hidden bling.
It's still plastic, but it's aluminum-look plastic.

12. Prep for Roof Transport? Yes – (a) just in case I need it.
Worth it for the dollars.

13. Power Steering Plus? Yes – (a) SA advised.
There will be a bunch of people on RennList who will tell you that you don't need this, because there's a lot of misconception as to what it does. As someone who actually drove their 992 more than 35k miles, I like PSP.

14. Steering Wheel? Heated standard – (a) GT Sport Wheel seems to block visibility a little.
Visibility isn't a concern, because regardless what you're going with, gauges will be blocked. I prefer the thickness of the heated GT steering wheel. It's the more conventional choice, because it's a good one.

Congratulations on scoring your allocation and good luck with the car!

If you don’t use a sunroof, don’t get it. Looks so much cleaner without it, especially on GT Silver. I was nervous at first, but I’m happy with my decision. It won’t hurt resale because there’s an even split of people that want one without.

Extended fuel tank for only $230 is a no brainer regardless of age. Delete bling gas cap that no one ever sees and add x gas tank.

The sport GT steering wheel and the standard are the same diameter on the 992. No difference but the little 10/2 humps. Skipped for me because of this.

I think that’s it!
Is it locked ? If so.. I am 95 percent on board .Here's where I am not -

1) Power Steering Plus - My dealership puts it on EVERY lot car . They have none but in the past ANY lot car I ever bought had it . EVERY ordered car did not . Its is absolutely USELESS . Its a commission on cheap option for dealerships . Some people call it a dealbreaker . I dont go that far . My wife drives a Macan without it .

2) Glass Sunroof - I hate sunroofs . I never open them . They were often forced on me . When I bought my last GTS it was a lot car . As you might guess it had power steering plus and the roof . I still loved the car . The roof was was the only roof I didn't hate only because it lets light into the car . Bald guys told me they get sunburned . I find that dramatic but I have a full head of hair . I still feel it adds weight in the worst possible location . I live run Florida and I dint even want it . I picked the carbon fiber roof .It looks nice on the Gt silver, its lighter and adds a nice touch. Steel is are and its perfect.

Other than the10/2 humps, is there a difference in the thickness of the wheel? I like a thick wheel.
