The NHTSA today approved the rule amendment that will permit Matrix/ADB lighting:
https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases/nhtsa-allow-adaptive-driving-beam-headlights-new-vehicles-improving-safety-drivers
I have asked my Porsche dealership to follow up with PCNA to arrange Matrix activation (as of today, the dealership had had no communication from PCNA).
The rule amendment will be effective upon Federal Register publication. I will plan to post again when that occurs.

I ordered my TT w/o (i.e. PDLS+). Went V210 last week. Lost a night of sleep and slipped in the change for the Matrix headlights and the order took!

It will be a big win if this can be enabled through some kind of software update.

Sounds about right. I paid for matrix on my 991.2 - threw away whatever ~3k. Didn't order on 992, so that it passed now, and will soon be able to be enabled, this was bound to happen.

No idea how well it works on Porsche, but on my M4, it’s absolutely fabulous. Best part I like about it is it will move the beam around to avoid oncoming cars, or if you get close to a car in front of you, split the pattern to open up the middle, while lighting up the sides of the road. This is not some meaningless, feel good, option….It’s a game changer if you drive at night in dark country/rural roads.

If you have the necessary hardware, which many already do (no different than Canadian models, which do have this feature activated), all it is a software mod. Two years ago I activated on my M4…but had a 3rd party do the activation, since the dealership wouldn’t touch until they got the Gov OK.

Love it! I am glad I spent the extra 3k for matrix lights in black😎 I was so tempted to take it off my build because everyone told me it has no function in US. Anyone here just like the matrix lights for how it looks like I do? I think the headlight design on 992 is so iconic and I didn't understand why people would opt for standard lights on an important part regardless of their functionality.

One thing the BMW community is light years ahead of Porsche, is the extensive community of hackers/software folks willing to “turn on” a number of available options on the car, for peanuts….options that are already activated in Europe, but turned off in the states. Booooooo. Totally sidestepping the dealership. For about $200, I had about 8 different options activated on my M4. Try having that done on your Porsche?
Another option you should activate on your M4, if you haven’t already done so…is the option to have your rear brake lights rapidly flash (like a strobe) when pressing hard like when you slam on the brakes. The purpose of this is to alert the driver behind you that you are braking, hard. Studies have shown a drive is far more likely to notice a rapidly flashing light, than just the rear lights coming on, and helps to reduce the frequency of rear end collisions. Flashing gets your attention, like flashing police lights.. Again, the European cars have had this for a while, and it’s all about safety.

The adaptive headlight system on BMW really is wonderful (I assume the Porsche system is very similar to other German brands?)….but felt slighted that I paid this extra money, and until recently, couldn’t benefit from the technology….on my Porsche.

My build has the Matrix ticked partially for potentially having this feature turned on but I also liked the look of them over the standard lights.

I totally agree with the BMW community aspect. I suspect it's the sample size by and large. I had a slew of things that I had turned on/off -- it was like ordering off of an a-la-carte menu ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I got them expecting the Porsche software/hacker community was similar to what I experienced with my BMW, and would easily be able to activate them. Not even close.
This news is great, and hopefully I can now get them activated by my dealership? But I bet this is going to take many months before dealerships activate…or, will they come up with some lame excuse (like the saggy seat saga, S^3) that there’s nothing they can do? We’ll see?

Is anyone familiar with what Porsche Canada did in 2019 when this was allowed there? Was it a simple dealer re-coding? That experience will be a good model for what will happen here.
