The collision took out the muffler and the cats. The latter were $4,000 each.
A new license plate was $10. I don't' have it yet. (Twelve weeks from the RMV).
I was hit by an old Honda Civic. She was braking when she hit me so the front of her car was diving.
Luckily, she had $100k in property damage liability insurance.
I know what I would do if I had $30K+ with of fender damage, and was told I had to wait 3-4 months for repair, I wouldn’t have the car repaired and use it as my track only car. I’d take the insurance payout and either put that on a new one, or, put that $30K into getting slicks, roll cage, etc

Although a great idea if you were looking for a $150K track car (getting a 30K discount), this option means he no longer has his awesome 992 road car.

Depends on whether base, and how optioned, but I get your point…ie, expensive way to go. But I have two college buddies that spent a lot more than $150K for their track only cars. Depends on everyone’s personal finances and interests?
I’m just saying, for me, if I already had damage on my car, I would be far less reluctant to track my car…and if I were to make tracking a regular thing, much of the year, I would get more than enough excitement from the track that I doubt I would miss driving it on the street. That’s just me.

Yes, fair enough, I agree all of us would have tons of fun on a 992 track car! I would probably go your route if it was about bigger damage that makes the car lose lots of its value. Do a cheaper repair and keep as track car.

If you pay out of pocket it will likely not hit carfax. I ran through this whole debacle for a fender bender.
The auto body shop is going to report it to CarFax. It’s incredibly shady to try working around that. TBH, it’s pathetic.
The depreciation from an accident on record isn’t the substantial loss to value that people think when it comes to a very desirable car. If you keep the car after the repairs and actually drive it, the impact of that depreciation decreases over time. People need to stop treating these cars like they’re investments. They’re not.
Accidents happen. This is why we insure cars. It was a single car accident. The owner bears liability for it. A little depreciation isn’t something to toss aside ethics for.
Regarding avoiding a CARFAX report, what does everyone think about paying for something minor like replacing a headlight, taillight or bumper facia (or similar minor accident repair) out of pocket to avoid a CARFAX report? Avoiding insurance all together if it is not your fault?
In this particular case, I’m not paying $30K+ out of pocket. Actually, unless there’s hidden damage, I really don’t see a lot of damage…maybe looks a lot worse in person? I’d live with it, drive it with total abandonment and then use it as a dedicated track car. But that’s my situation.
Most cars I’ve owned, I either kept to where their residuals value was almost nothing, or donated them to my kids. I’ve never worried about CARFAX or resale value. May be a while before I give the 992 to one of my kids, however.
