Default Convertible top error after low battery

Hi all, I recently picked up a CabS and got a low battery warning while I was getting things set up with the car powered on. I tried starting it to charge the battery but not enough juice. I threw it on my tender for a couple hours and it fired up fine but I got a convertible top error, needs service warning. Drove all day with no issues but top warning is there and it is non functional. Any chance this is something that can be reset via an obd tool? Dealer can’t get me in until March, hoping this is a software thing that I can get fixed elsewhere. Top worked fine prior to the low battery warning.

Try disconnecting the battery.

It's possible that you can delete the error. If there's a hardware problem beyond the battery, of course it will come back.

I would put it on a proper charger overnight. And as noted above maybe disconnect the battery too for a bit may help reset the system. FYI - there is another poset where folks were setting up their PCM and stuff without the car engine running and ran down the battery... so you aren't alone.

What's concerning to me though is that I'm hearing on this forum that dealers are telling new buyers that can't look at their delivery issues for months. That's crazy talk. So far I have not had any issues with my 992 or dealer. I haven't been in for a service yet but, with my Boxster, I was always able to get an appointment within a few days - always on an early Saturday morning though, which is perfect.

Did you install a Smart Top?

I put the tender on it and will see if that helps, if not I will try disconnecting the battery.

I continue to have battery/pcm issues. Yesterday my wife’s BMW decided not to cooperate electronically. Called their connect service and they walked me through a reboot of their system. Very easy to do but not something you find in owners manual. It worked.
So does porsche have a “PCM reboot” function or as has been suggested, disconnecting the battery the only way.
problem with disconnecting the battery their is a relearning of major functions necessary.

I truly believe car manufacturers have all created a new department, The Department of Over Complication

My 2014 Cab would sometimes get funky on the top. Best thing to do is let the CanBus shut all the way down, LOCK the car and give it 10 minutes, then come back to it and try it. The CanBus stays active for about 5 minutes after the vehicle is key off. Locking the car also shuts down a few more systems that are monitoring. That has always worked for me on top resetting, and so will the battery disconnect (but you will lose your memory settings doing so).

Keep your car locked in the garage too, it will have less battery drain.
