Default Would getting this save me if I’m pulled over?

https://www.ilsos.gov/departments/vehicles/license_plate_guide/fop.html

Because of my spirited driving I’m thinking of switching to these plates on my 992 and my BMW M340i. I drive both very naughtily.

Are these helpful?

I'd rather pay the lawyer to get the ticket dismissed.

The FOP plates can't hurt, but there are no guarantees when it comes to dealing with the police. Remember that there are entire classes of people that the police consider more trouble to deal with than they're worth, and that doesn't include you. In their eyes, the guy with the Porsche is very likely worth it.

A line from a letter to the editor in a long-ago issue of C&D still sticks with me: Honor thy tach and thy Escort Valentine, that thy days be long upon the road.

I accidentally ripped 100mph in front of a cop the other day

The cop immediately changed lanes, slowed down, and left the freeway. I obviously didn't see the cop and he obviously could have ticketed me right then and there, but that didn't happen. I also don't bother using radar or any bull**** in my car because adding additional weight to my car just so i can avoid scanning cars on the road is kind of stupid. You're better off living in a place where you're allowed to speed safely than you are trying to avoid pissing off police in an area where they don't want you to speed.

I don't know about you guys, but as far as I know I'm clearly not worth the trouble to deal with, and I do drive my 992 exclusively.

If the police in your area don't want you to speed, don't speed. Go to another area. Its that simple. The only speeding ticket I've EVER gotten is the one I got when I saw a parked police officer in the median and slowed down from 120+ so he could start his car and catch up to me. He basically gave me a warning and said do the class so it doesn't affect your insurance. Don't paint all cops with the same brush, if you speed safely in the proper zones you won't be bothered. If you drive recklessly they'll catch you. Above all else don't speed when there are other cars nearby and you won't be causing problems for anyone but yourself, in general, which means the police are not interested in you.

It really depends on how egregious your driving behavior was and if you were endangering other people besides yourself with your spirited driving. Your attitude can certainly play a role when it comes to exercising discretion on whether the law will be enforced through its letter (citation) or its intended spirit (verbal warning/counseling). Owning a Porsche doesn’t automatically make you, “worth it” as a target. It’s the totality of circumstances. It doesn’t matter what you drive, if you’re driving with disregard for human life and are endangering other motorists, you’re getting fanged whether you drive a 911 or a minivan.

Also, to the above post regarding hiring a lawyer.. it doesn’t automatically get your ticket dismissed. They just represent you so you don’t have to show up to court to testify against the Officer. All the Officer needs to do is articulate how he was able to establish that you violated a vehicle code to the judge (Radar/Lidar coupled with visual estimation, or a bumper pace) and it’s a slam dunk for the Officer.

OP, whatever you do, the worst thing you can do is advertise that you have purchased or supported the cause (which is greatly appreciated) to the Officer at the time of the stop (Ex: handing him your member card with your drivers license).

Another example in the same vein would be dont put the sticker they mail you up front. tbh OP what youre suggesting wrt the license plate implies that you're doing it with the expectation that you will be able to use that to your benefit somehow, and not that you did it to support (some group) , not sure if that will play out as intended

If a cop is laying for you and has to get out of his "hiding spot" and follow you on a highway and pull you over to a safe spot, he is most likely gonna give you a ticket. He has a quota to fill and probably does not want to waste his time and effort for just a warning.

Is there much traffic enforcement where you are? There is almost none at all where I live. Probably haven't seen a vehicle pulled over in over four weeks. A few years ago I'd see at least 2 a day as there were speed traps everywhere that have disappeared. The result is an epidemic of reckless endangerment in the form of aggressive driving that you observe or are the victim of every time you are behind the wheel. There is a huge difference between some spirited driving and this disease of reckless stupidity that puts everyone on the road at great risk.

Thanks for the feedback

No I’m not a reckless driver in some sense, but I do drive my sports cars the way they are meant to be driven. Not when other cars are around, but when there is an expanse of open road or an open twisty you better believe that I will get on the throttle.

Cops aren’t super vigilant where I live, but they are there so you can’t be too foolish. I have been pulled over but I am always very polite, as I genuinely do respect what they do for a living.

I saw a bmw convertible pulled over on a side road yesterday, probably gassed too much down a street and got lit up. Aside from that, not really much "enforcement" going on just general "please don't superspeed today" vibes if they show up next to me and drive side by side for a few miles.

I have a support our troops plate and often carry challenge coins with me, but then again I have a great deal of respect for those that put themselves in harm's way for the rest of us.

Pretty sure we don't have anything like that. But my plate has red white and blue on it, and my car is blue. I don't think the green black matrix motif would complement my gentian blue color.

Sounds like you are on the same page as I am, time and a place to cut lose.
Good to hear support for law enforcement. Our nation will cease to exist as we know it without them along with our military. God Bless all of these people who risk their lives for the rest of us, they are our heros.
