36k mile report
This is the third post, in my series of posts, sharing the experience racking up miles and just driving my 992 like it’s meant to be driven. Be sure to check out these previous reports as well.
19k mile report is here (https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1254...le-report.html)
25k mile report is here (https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1270...le-report.html)
I’ve also included links to RennList threads that I found helpful or started throughout this report. I hope that you find it helpful.
Build/Spec
My car is 2020 992 Carrera 4S that I purchased new in the fall of 2019. Incidentally, it was the first 992 sold and registered in Pennsylvania. It was a June 2019 build and has the three customizable diamond buttons (1: PCM off, 2: Exhaust, Wheel: Parking assist).
Aventurine Green, RS Spyder Design Wheels with Colored Crests, Sport and Premium Packages, Leather interior with deviated stitching, LCA, PDLS+, Bose, 18 way seats, Power Steering Plus, Light Design Package.
It’s pictured below with my Porsche 19/20 Winter Wheel set. Photo was taken last weekend. Yes, it still looks amazing.

Modifications to Date
- Paint Correction and CQuartz Prime Ceramic Coating
- Hardwired Radar Detector - Uniden R7, Blendmount, Mirror tap (https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1185...radar-etc.html)
Warranty Work To Date
- BOSE Speaker Rattle, both speakers replaced
- Drive Selector (aka nubbin aka Braun, etc) LEDs not illuminating all of the time (scheduling this one now)
- All of the recall work has been done including the engine mounts and front latch
Technical Notes
- These cars aren’t chip magnets. I’ve been through 16 states. If you are worried about chips, you can see where I have picked up chips here. (https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1276...30k-miles.html)
- I recently avoided having to get my windshield replaced by keeping a windshield repair kit handy in the glove compartment. I was able to pull over, stop, and repair the spidering rock strike on the roadside. (https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1281...s-the-day.html)
- It has had the 30k mile spark plug service done. My dealer took their time with it as it was the first 992 where they did a plug swap. Porsche Warrington basically has me as a customer for life. They’re 5 minutes from my house and they take excellent care of me. Thank you, Mike, Todd, and Elena!
- My summer rear tires have been replaced (https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1267...on-my-c4s.html). The winters will have to be replaced after this season.
- I just replaced my well weathered SPASM front lip with a new one. The swap makes the car look like new and eliminated some wind noise that had developed over the miles due to scrapes and pitting. (https://rennlist.com/forums/992/1284...35k-miles.html)
Driving Experience
- This car has now been through 16 states (PA, NJ, NY, DE, WV, VA, KY, MD, TN, AR, OK, KS, MO, IL, OH, MI, NC) on everything (urban jungle, rural backroads, amazing mountain roads, two separate road-based hill climb courses, and highways). It has even cruised at high speed for hours on end across the “pandemic autobahn”.
- The car has seen rain, freezing rain, and snow on both finished and unfinished dirt/gravel roads. It cleans up and looks amazing.
- The Porsche AWD system and I are now one. I know exactly what it’s going to do on nearly any surface or condition. I can kick out the rear on demand and know when PTV will intervene. It’s a very driver-oriented RWD biased system with almost no sacrifice over the RWD setup. I love it.
- The PSE is now fully broken in. It gets better with the miles. I may still do a SOUL Performance or Fabspeed exhaust on it at some point (both shops are local to me here in southeastern PA), but the PSE does sound great after it’s broken in.
- I’ve spent a lot of time in my 18-ways. I would totally spec them again. My longest stint in them remains at 17hrs of driving in a single day from St Louis to home in the Philly area.
- We’ve got five cars. It’s the first time that I haven’t owned a three pedal car in about 35 years. I’ve been very happy with the PDK.
- I treat this thing like a car. I totally beat on it. I’ve eaten in it. It’s not some fragile thing. That being said, I also am fastidious on maintenance and consider cleaning part of that maintenance. I check tire pressures and inspect the tires for unusual wear, nails, screws, and or debris before heading out on a spirited drive.
- I never cared about depreciation though its nice to see that the thing basically hasn’t depreciated from the price that I paid for it new. Once you’ve got a few thousand miles on a car, it really doesn’t matter if it has a few thousand or 36k — there’s precious little impact to resale/trade-in. Go out and enjoy your cars.
- If I were to try to sum up the whole experience, I am very much at one with this car. I can get it to do whatever I want. I understand everything that it’s telling me. There is no substitute.
What’s next?
- When the pandemic lets up, Mrs Ansinn and I are going to do a coast-to-coast trip in the car. I want to drive it through 49 states. Of course, I will say hello to @siberian
- Eventually, I will get this car to a track. I haven’t been on a road course in years. Given how familiar I am with the car, I am sure that it will be a hoot.
Misc
- I’ve owned different makes and been part of different clubs, forums, etc. RennList is a special community. I’ve been fortunate to meet RL members in real-life. Truth be told, it’s part of what makes owning one of these cars so great. I love the Porsche community and while the 992 is the first Porsche that I bought for myself, I have realized that I really was a P car guy all along. Thank you for all of your helpful information and support
- Current Cars: Porsche 992 C4S, Alfa Romeo 4C Spider (laugh riot), Mini Cooper SE (EV driver’s car, see I don’t hate all BMWs), Mercedes Benz GLA 250 4matic (hot hatch in drag), Volvo XC70 (pick-up truck stand-in) Yes, it’s an eclectic mix.

Nice write up detansin! Couldn't agree more, as I do think porsche and 911's in particular, get better when driven, not sitting in the garage. Good to see you are enjoying it and having fun..
Here is to the next 36K miles!

What a gent offering this information , thanks for sharing. It's helpful to hear from someone who has actually driven their car continually and knows it inside out. The value in this post is in the mileage you've done more so than the years of ownership

@detansinn Thanks for the continued awesome updates. I’ve had my C2S since Jan 2020 (sadly only 10K miles so far) and would like to know your plans on keeping your car past warranty and/or buying an extended warranty if you do.
With two years left on my warranty I would likely want to start the order/trade in process at the start of year 3 given lead times and any 992.2 changes but frankly it’s still a new enough car for me.

Great report! Porsche 992's are very robust and built to be driven. I've been driving 911's since 1983 and they just keep getting better. My 992 is my favorite (so far) as it's ability to morph from grocery getter, grand tourer to incredibly capable sports car may be under appreciated by many.
Like you I PPF'd the front clip, ceramic coated the car and wheels and never looked back.
I do have one question for you. have you noticed a general reduced amount of brake dust produced compared to 991 series or is it just my imagination?

Fantastic write up! It seems a though you have gotten everything you hoped for from the car, and much more! Money well spent. We are blessed to be able to enjoy them. I'm turning my Cayenne Turbo Coupe into a C4S Coupe that I was able to serendipitously fall into yesterday. More on that soon. Your write up has helped reinforce the decision, as well as my PDK build. Continued driving in good health!

As for .2 update, I am doubtful that the 992.2 will bring enough changes to the table to merit an upgrade. If I were to buy the same spec C4S today (MY2022) and got it for MSRP, it would be $12-13k more than I paid for my car (pre-pandemic and below MSRP, ah, those were the days). Without a doubt, the 992.2 will be even more expensive with year over year pricing increases. I can’t imagine that it would be worth it if you already own a 992.1 unless you wanted to go up in the model range, ie TTS/TT.
For now, I’ll wait and see what the 994 brings. If Porsche can pull off a plug-in hybrid 911 without significant weight gain, I may go that route.
Thank you!
