Default Windshield Repair Kit saves the day

Rock hit the windshield of my 992 at speed and started to spider. I pulled over and used the Permatex Windshield Repair Kit ($10-15) that I keep in the car. It includes everything that you need for a field repair.

The repair is now curing while I enjoy a sandwich, but you can’t even tell there was a hit. Preparedness FTW.

Very impressive. Any temperature limitations that you need to apply, ie, will it work at 30-40F?

Resin cures with sunlight. I had it in the glove compartment, so the kit was warm and the windshield was warmed by the interior and the sun. Ambient temperature is about 37F at the moment.

Very cool. Something I never even considered to keep in the car. Thanks for sharing.

Good idea to have the kit in the glove box.

Thank you for sharing. Very useful indeed and thank you for the tip. Any specific brand / kit you would recommend?

I’ve used this particular kit a few times over the years with excellent results. This is the one that I used on the 911 yesterday.

Great advice. Ordered that kit from Amazon and plan to keep it in the vehicle

I just picked another one up at AutoZone and tossed it in the glovebox. Hopefully, I won’t need it anytime soon.

Detansinn - Can you send a picture of end result. Also will it pass inspection come August through October next year? Driver side / line of sight get called out often. Then again if it is an insurance claim, best get the order in early with supply chain if you want a Porsche OEM windshield. Aside - still waiting on Winter Wheel Set which was ordered the day my car went into production - two months to the day and counting.

Greta idea, have one at home but getting another to keep in car.
Also very handy in car is a tire repair kit, $10-15 at Amazon allows you to repair a puncture (if it’s in the tread) roadside and drive on.

Great information, Detansinn. Thank you. Didn't know about these, nor their effectiveness. You have me convinced to carry one in the cars. Quick question. Can everything be done from the outside? For example, if the chip were very-very low on the dash and access to the inside wasn't possible (like nearly below the dash line), does this kit still work?

Thanks again!

In my experience using similar kits (like Rain-X one) all the work is done from the outside. Not sure what his picture is showing with the syringe thing on the dash.
