Default *** Door Doesn't Close Properly ***

Fellow 992 members, tried a quick search but came up empty (RL doesn't have a great advanced search feature that works)

Just picked up a MY22 992, and upon delivery, I noticed the driver door black trimming didn't align perfectly with the rear body, but didn't think twice as I was overwhelmed with everything else. During the walkthrough and demo, had to slam the door a few times before I could fully close it, again just thinking it's a new car and every car needs a different amount of force to close the door.

When I drove out of the dealership, the demo person had to knock on my window because again the door wasn't fully closed. Same thing happened when I was at the detail shop and realized that I was reversing with the door still a tad opened.

Adding 1+1 = 2, it sort of makes sense now. The trim is a bit misaligned due to the door being misaligned and that's why I have difficulty closing the door.

tl:dr
  • Wanted to get a quick sanity check to see if you feel the 992 requires you to slam the door harder than normal cars for it to close properly
  • The best way to explain it is that it feels like I push/pull the door with enough force and it makes a solid "bang" but it's still not fully closed and leaves that gap like if you gently close the door and it "pops" back out a bit
Definitely going to be bringing it to the dealer to have a look but just wanted to check with the community first. Thanks all!

No. Further, if you slam it too fast or close the door by pushing on the window, you can break the glass.

My MY22 definitely takes noticeable effort to close the doors properly. My film/tint guy even commented about it as he had the car a few days. Friends commented about it as well. I effectively got used to it at this point though.

Do you have a picture of the misalignment you speak of? That would help others confirm if there is an issue.

I have to make sure to close the door firmly or it will not completely shut. 3 or 4 times in two months I've had to re-open and close it to get it properly shut. My trim looks to be in align and closing the door is not clunky in any way. So for me it is not an issue.

This is a warranty repair, don’t live with it like that.

I suspect NOTHING is wrong with your car - it is new, the rubber seals are new, and they haven't "learned" to be compliant yet / soften up. They will. Give it some time. Easy enough to look in the mirror to see if that trim aligns and the door is fully closed when you are sitting in the driver's seat. Give it a firm pull - it will improve with time. Mine did the same thing; others on this site have reported the same.
Edit - just noticed you live in a cold climate - that also makes the problem worse due to stiff rubber seals.

Unless there is something wrong with your trim then this shouldn't be an issue. I had to close it several times at the dealer upon pickup to get it properly shut. Over the next few days it got better. The door is nice and snug and the fitment is excellent as far a I can tell.

But if it looks wrong and/or continues to not shut properly then bring it in to the dealer. I suspect you just need to get used to it and break it in some more.

Difficult to close at first but over time it gets easier.

Not normal. You shouldn't have to slam the door to close it.

I'd take it back and let the dealership make the necessary adjustments. It could be nothing, but if you don't get it looked at and it gets worse over time, you'll regret it.

The cars have noticeably tight cabin seals, more so than my 991s. With the windows down, are the doors easy (or at least easier) to close? As others have stated, if you are concerned, take it back to the dealer to check and advise on alignment and trim, and at the least, get it documented in service history.

I received my 992S Cab last January. Passenger door had to be shut with force (slam is too strong a word). I took it to the dealer, who said it was normal, and that there is nothing that can be adjusted. Since it is the passenger door, it probably hasn't been opened 40 times in a year. I just opened and closed it today to put something in the car. It is not nearly as difficult as it was in the beginning,

My new turbo S has this, but only on the drivers side.

i have to close the door with the same force that I have to slam the doors on my g-wagon.

At least once every 2 days I have to reslam the door to get it to closed.

Brought it to a body shop and they said it’s not normal. I called the dealership I bought it from (1,000 miles away) and they said it is within spec and if I want I can drive it 1300 miles to a Porsche body shop.

The local body shop is waiting for a special Porsche branded tool to arrive before they work on it.

Sounds like we are all experiencing different levels of door function. I am confident, mine is not normal…
