I’m going to need to sell my 21 1992 C2s manual transmission FAL sport suspension MSRP 123 + tax and tags =132..To make room for my Gt3 Touring that’ll be here in April.. the car will have about 4000 miles on it by then it’s Carrera white Gray standard interior what should I ask? Or should I just trade it. What’s the range?
Thought about keeping them both but that would be stupid even for me. A lot of money tied up in depreciating assets something I only do with ex-wives… Carl

I haven't even taken delivery yet (early Jan 2022) and I'm tempted to sell! My daily driver is a '22 Defender 90, and I come from a long ownership history of 4-speed Detroit muscle, old and new Land Cruisers, old and new BMWs, and NAS '94 Defender 90s. This will be my first Porsche, and my two-page option list was inspired & justified by the current and near-term 992 market conditions. It was an absolute no-brainer to commit to this purchase. I can drive it for 15k mi over the next 2 years and sell it for 85-90% of MSRP (or better) at will? That's a good deal.

I would look at a few comparable and then give your dealer a chance to give you a trade in offer. At least in NY, we get sales tax credit for the trade in value. So you would need to make 8% more on a private sale to break even - not considering the hassle factor.

Thanks, unfortunately not in California they charge you on the gross sale not the net. I’m from Wisconsin there it’s the same as New York you only pay on the net sale so you pick up the sales tax on the trade. I really haven’t seen any C2 S manuals for sale to get an idea of the market? Carl

I sold my 2020 992 C4S Manual for around 20K more than I paid - I had 5500 miles. Sold mine at the end of August/early September.

I got it for a significant discount ~8% just before the pandemic took hold (so early March 2020). Thus sold if for MSRP + ~10K. The difference also is that I sold it back to my dealer and got my 992 Targa 4S allocation and tax credit which equated to around another ~10K (in Ohio we do get the net trade in tax benefit.)

So adding it all up, I got around $28-30K total benefit in selling back to the dealer (as you do not get that credit on private sales). So I would estimate 20-30K more than MSRP for a nicely option CS manual - I would also say anything under 8K miles should be about the same. Once you get over 10K miles, I would adjust down 5K or so in sale price.

PS. I also did PPF and a few other nice little things, I am not counting, since those added nothing to my resale, but did take away from the overall ~30K (in reality) of what I made.

But hey, I drove it for just over a year, got a 2022 911 Targa Allocation (just had my targa delivered 2 weeks ago), and the profit from my sale of the C4S pretty much covered the extra I spent on the targa. Very rarely in the 25 years of me owning sports and exotics do you every make money, not alone driving it for free for a while. Crazy times!

FWIW, I am about to sell My 991.2, and I will probably make about $25,000 over what I paid for it two years ago. I am going to buy a brand new cheaper car at MSRP like a Camaro SS or a VW GTI and drive it for a year or two, and see what the market does. I can always give it to my son when I get tired of it. Used cars are too expensive right now IMO. I have a truck for work, so any car for me is just a weekend toy/backup that I don't have to have. I am not near the wealthiest fellow here, so this makes sense for me. When crazy time is over, we will see what a used 992 is going for. I love Porsches; this is my fourth one, but not really necessary for my happiness. It all depends on how much money you want to have in a car. I was ok with driving a $70,000 car, but at $95,000, I will take the money. I'm sure I am in the minority here, seeing as I am on the 992 forum

Nothing wrong with that at all, my buddy bought a 2021 992 CS Cab just about 1 year ago, I helped him decide on the purchase (this was his first Porsche and first true sports car). He obviously paid a bit over MSRP for a lightly used Cab last year when he bought it. Fast forward to last week. He called, said he wasn't driving it much as he thought he would. He was enjoying it as a 3rd fun sunny weather car, but with the prices moving up, and not driving it as much as he thought he would - he decided to sell it. He made 15K over what he paid for it (he only put about 2K miles on it the whole year).

My point is, if you were every going to sell a porsche (or frankly nearly any car) now is the time to do it, regardless of reason.

Buying my 2021 C2S Manual was never a good financial decision, so I don’t really care what the market does. For me, owning this car is the culmination of a lifetime of enjoying the Porsche brand and history, but alway vicariously. I ordered my car exactly to my specs, harkening cues that elicit thoughts of 911 history to me. I’ll sell it if or when the dream inside me dies. I don’t need more, nor do I aspire to more. I don’t care about faster 0-60 times, which are juvenile and the chassis dynamics are exactly what I hoped for. I’m happy.

Alas! a thread that makes sense even though it slightly mentions sale premiums (not to be confused with ADM). I also share what others have said in previous posts, in my garage, anything Porsche 911 post the 997.1 series is for sale at the right price. I sold my '21 and didn't even flinch. Since, I picked up my long awaited PTS 992 super high spec manual '2022 4S just 3 weeks ago and will sell it come spring '22 ahead of taking delivery of the GT3T which arrives early summer '22. I don't need two 992s. If anyone wants to make any offers now just send me a PM. You know the market and the difficulty to get allocated and wait times in the year plus now, so don't waste my time and I won't waste yours.

For the OP, if you already enjoyed your 911 992 and are ready to move on, you don't need anyone's permission in here to do so. Just try to make some money while you're at it as this Porsche shortage issue is not going to get resolved any time soon and certainly not in 2022. Good luck!

Here's my fully loaded 2021 Carrera S Cab with MSRP of $ 159,500. 3,600 miles. Make an offer. I can always find another car to buy...

That plate is EPIC!
+ 1 on your thought process.

LOL. that was for my wife. I was shopping Ferrari's pretty hard - new Portofinos and/or Roma's @ $ 290K or so. She said "are you REALLY going to buy a Ferrari that costs that much?" As time went on she stiffened and said "No Ferraris - please, that's just so much money." So when I found this new 2021 992S at the dealer and called her about it she said "How much?" I said " $ 160K" and she said "BUY IT". So that's the story behind the license plate.

I've always had a Porsche. When we were dating.....

A 1970 911E I blacked out to look like a 1977 Turbo. Age 26. She knows cars will be in my life until I'm in a wheelchair - and even then it will have to be a carbon fiber model.

Reminds me of a recent episode on the Spike’s Car Radio podcast (Dec 8 episode) on a misguided effort to buy a car not for sale. “It’s not for sale, but it can be bought”!
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas...=1000544294572

If you’re not familiar with the podcast: “Cars, Coffee and Comedy hosted by comedian and automotive enthusiast Spike Feresten and featuring Jerry Seinfeld, lawyer Paul Zuckerman, MotorTrend's Jonny Lieberman, and The Smoking Tire's Matt Farah with guests from the automotive industry, notable comedians and celebrities. As always, there's one empty chair at Spike's table saved for you, the listener.”

I enjoy it a great deal and there’s typically a fair bit of Porsche content, just passing on the info.
