Nope, never sat in one before I picked mine up at the dealer.

I've owned a couple of 356's and a 964, and after reading the reviews on the 992 I knew I wouldn't be disappointed.

For those who've never owned a Porsche, this would be quite a leap of faith, but after 3 other P cars, I had no doubts that the DNA was still there!

I test drove a 4S pre-pandemic and then a used base and a used 2S w/Aerokit once I has my 2S w/Aerokit on order. Pandemic test drives are great as they just had you the keys and you are on your own! The key takeaway for me is: 992 looks so big and heavy, but drives like a small car - very “tossable” and not intimidating at all.

I never even knew the 992 existed when I ordered mine. The salesman in the showroom told me about them when I popped in to enquire.

I had observed 4 and 5 year old Carreras trading at the auction (with no mechanical warranty) for £65k+, which was about 50% less in depreciation than anything else.

So I had wondered for a few years what the reasons were that the second hand market values 911s so highly. This includes the classic models as well.

Generally if the second hand value holds up, it is for good reason.

I also thought, why buy a second hand one -when I can buy a new one for a little bit more?

So I decided to become that person- 2 years ago. Best car buying decision I ever made.

I had a PECLA session with a 991.2 TTS and then rented a 991.2 C2 for a day before deciding to order my 992. While I had seen them up close multiple times, the first time I drove a 992 was the day of delivery. I purposely did not want to drive a C2S given my order. Still enjoying every mile in my C2 and so glad I didn't sell it a couple months back.

I'll caveat by saying the only 991.1 I ever drove was an S manual, and another one to confirm my understanding of why the 991.1 fanboys are validated because they are great cars... the intake noise in the cabin is intoxicating and having to "work" to extract power from a high-strung N/A engine is rewarding...

But the experience of a 991.1 naturally aspirated car and even the 991.2 is so different, you may as well claim to have never driven a 911 before.

The one thing I'll say is consistent is the way a 911 "squats" into a corner. There's just nothing else that drives like that; the rear-drive cars at least. You just get this indescribable sensation that the rear of the car will just do whatever the hell you tell the front to do and you just sort of "sling" through a corner. It's friggin amazing.

In my opinion though, the 911 "pendulum" sensation is only enhanced by the power delivery of the turbocharged cars and rear-axle steering. No, you don't get quite the same noise out of the 991.2; but from what I've experienced and validated on this forum multiple times, the 992 sounds far superior to the 991.2 so even that gap has been closed. Some still insist that they prefer the top-heavy power delivery of the N/A cars but personally, I feel like that powerplant is woefully disappointing compared to any recent engine; even the new 4.0 N/A engines. It will feel slow relative to the turbo cars, I don't care that the actual acceleration numbers aren't that dramatically different on paper...

Also to stay on topic, I recently had the privilege to drive a 992 C4S on a track, and it was enough to get me to move on from my 991.2. Also sold me on the PDK, for what that's worth... (I will be getting a rear-wheel drive 992 though).

I should of qualified that i was only able to try that 991.1 GTS PDK at the dealer, as it was all they had for my wife to come along for a drive in and also drive herself, I did drive a 992 Carrera S at Racing Exotics LV for 10 laps so i did get to drive one although i was way more concentrated on the track and less the car.

I took delivery in early Fall 2019. There were no 992s to test drive. The first time that I drove one, it was wearing my license plate. Yep, the exact scenario that you're looking at.

Prior to that, I had experience driving other people's 911s, including hundreds miles of road tripping and adventuring. Having driven other modern 911s (996, 997, 991), I had a very good idea of what to expect from the new car. My wife had never been in a 911. When the SA heard this, he invited us to take a used 991.2 GTS out for a spin -- my wife quickly realized why I was so excited. Success.

We're expecting another car here in December that we've never driven. It's part of being an early adopter. I can't wait. Truth be told, you're not going to learn much about a car with a quick spin around the block.

I still haven't driven any 992 variant - although I did make sure to sit in the various seat options. I have a TTS coming soon and a GT3 Touring on order.

Owned a 993TT, 996 Cab and 718 Spyder previously.

it will be the first time driving a 992, I sat in a used one. 911 wise over the years I've had a 1989 911, a 2001 996c4 and a 2000 Boxster, recently a Macan and a Cayenne. The Cayenne's interior's pcm looks the most similar. I've watched a lot of YouTube reviews, but no I really don't know what to expect. Kind of crazy in a car in this price range, but as you all know the lots don't have any demos

I've driven a 991 GT3 but never a 992. I have my order placed for Jan delivery and I'm confident it will exceed my expectations.

My order was in before any 992’s were available to look at in the US. I looked at one in Europe before mine arrived. After they dropped it off at my house, it was the first drive. I evaluate a lot of vehicles for work including Porsches and other performance vehicles, but it was still exciting to get it out for its first drives.

Dhirm, Really? With the glossy finish at the top of the car and the dirtiest/murkiest portion being the very bottom, the resultant gradient pretty much says mud or dirt plus rain.

…and the fact that the number plate is there and slightly legible.

I was lucky enough to test drive a few 911s before placing an order for my 992 C2. After driving the 992, I knew it was the one for me.
